POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate / Associate Director, Syndicated Financing, as part of the Wholesale Finance group, contributes to the growth of the BDC Syndicated Financing portfolio by underwriting and recommending high quality transactions in accordance with BDC credit policies and risk parameters. They conduct in-depth analysis and due diligence activities for Syndicated Financing loan proposals. The Associate / Associate Director develops and manages account and influencer relationships to grow the BDC Syndicated Financing portfolio, while meeting BDC profitability objectives.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Plan and conduct activities that promote the Syndicated Financing Group’s capabilities to its financial partners to generate opportunities.
Conduct proper investigation and due diligence activities for complex loan proposals, including completing relevant analysis and credit documentation while ensuring the risk profile is within the parameters of accepted credit practices and BDC policies and procedures.
Address issues such as compliance or material changes that arise as deals are being negotiated, structured and documented.
Manage the assigned credit portfolio of Syndicated Financing accounts, identifying and escalating any material risk issues to ensure the risk rating remains accurate at all times.
Proactively build a key influencer network of chartered bank representatives, lawyers, and other influencers to help BDC achieve its objectives and foster deal sharing opportunities.
Keep abreast of general issues affecting the Syndicated Financing ecosystem, including market conditions, industry practices and financial results for existing and potential clients.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics (or equivalent)
MBA, CPA, CBV and/or CFA designation and/or relevant professional designation is an asset
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for an Associate Director role
Minimum of 3 years of commercial or corporate banking experience for an Associate role
A working knowledge of the upstream oil and gas industry and reserve-based lending is preferred
Analytical business sense and strategic thinking
Strong underwriting, mediation and communication skills to relay messages across departments and ability to manage interactions with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team to meet deadlines, be highly organized and proactive
Excellent oral and written communication skills
