The opportunity:

Our Ocean Freight Trade Lane Team is essential to winning new business, supporting all current business, and building out the future of Flexport’s ocean services. As an Ocean Trade Lane Associate, you’ll be an integral part of helping achieve Flexport’s growth goals. 

In this role, the key responsibility of your role will be to organize carrier allocations in a structured and centralized depository and provide in-depth analytics on demand and supply gaps to help the team to optimize our demand-supply with best yield whilst offering high standard of service to our clients. You will also be working closely with the rest of the Trade Lane Team teammates to support the related activities on the assigned trade lanes and ensure a smooth shipment flow, you will also be expected to have a large individual contribution.

You will:

  • Oversee all allocation matters for the trade and ensure the carrier allocations are updated accurately into central database for execution
  • Review utilization trends regularly and engage business stakeholders to drive poor performance
  • Develop regular communication with Procurement on Demand and Supply gaps and propose viable solutions to mitigate the gaps
  • Stay abreast on industry trends, regulations, and market conditions to adjust allocation strategies and identify growth opportunities with internal key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify discrepancies and gaps, and propose solutions that are mutually beneficial for all parties involved.Refresh routes based on the updated carrier alliances.
  • Collaborate with Origin teams to collect monthly forecasts on space requirements and ensure continuous review for the space requests with Procurement.
  • Ensure origin team execute cargo steering instructions in accordance to Trades’ guidelines / directions
  • Provide clear booking directions to Origin teams when needed to support better yield extraction
  • Support Procurement to reflect bullet deals with carrier in Market Place and ensure end to end execution at the shipment level
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to support the development or improvement of  system and tools or other initiatives related to allocation & yield
  • Present ideas and findings during meetings.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis or tasks related as required

You should have: 

  • A minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience at a top freight forwarder or carrier with a Bachelor Degree
  • Basic industry knowledge with an in-depth understanding of ocean freight and carrier management, hand on experience of Transpacific trade is preferred
  • Fluent in English.  Good command of Mandarin will be an advantage
  • Strong team player with self starter attitude and also diligent in follow up and completion
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills and strong commercial sense
  • High attention to details and able to think end to end
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to structure, interpret and action data
  • Strong in problem solving and ability to apply judgment for day-to-day decisions
  • Ability to handle change and perform under pressure and tight timeline with great time management skill
  • Excellent networking skills to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Experience working with dashboards & knowledge on SQL will be plus point
  • Ability to handle change and deal with tight timelines and ambiguity
