Overview:

The Calgary Distribution Centre (DC) has an opening for an Operations Manager.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivating and energetic individual, who enjoys the challenges of working in a high potential, fast-paced environment with frequent workload changes and competing demands.

This Operations Manager role is unique in the West, as you’d be responsible for managing, ensuring stability, creating efficiencies, and working with key members both internally & externally within one of the two distinct operational departments. You will oversee a combined workforce of approximately 500 union & non-union colleagues.

You will be challenged to achieve business objectives while delivering a consistent standard of safety and accuracy. You will be required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and sharing of resources amongst internal and external departments to ensure the DC delivers a high level of customer service. 

What you will do:

  • Manage direct and total productivity within a department
  • Establish and maintain high visibility, involvement and interaction with all colleagues
  • Provide guidance, feedback and development for colleagues to build and maintain a bench strength of knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Utilize Loblaw programs and supports such as Home-Grown Talent, cross training, relief, succession planning)
  • Actively lead facility cultural, safety, and inclusion initiatives to create engagement with colleagues and promote participation in decision making
  • Evaluate, monitor and verify operational performance and address issues in a proactive manner
  • Provide direction and training, as required on new procedures, policies, and process on how the department operates, and ensure they are executed as designed
  • Preparation and completion of applicable report and analysis
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives and opportunities to increase efficiency or to reduce redundancies
  • Lead and actively participate in facility and organizational projects
  • Ensure standard operating procedures and/or routines are effectively adhered to and followed in order to minimize risk to the business

What you'll need:

  • 5 years management experience in a distribution/warehouse setting
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional team-building ability and a strong people development background
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, project management and communication skills
  • Strong computer systems knowledge (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • High level of integrity and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Knowledge in warehouse management systems (WMS) and related technologies
  • ‘Big-picture’ thinker with the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency within a fast paced and demanding work environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours
