Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)As a Network and IT Validation Lead, the general mission is to coordinate all activities associated with ITV work packages. Ensures that the work performed by the team meets overall product/project requirements, consistent with the standards of Hitachi Rail Signaling Solutions. Address all validation and testing aspects of a mission-critical communication system (DCS) that supports the operation of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system.
This includes analysis of Customer’s (internal or external) requirement and specifications to define network compliancy, review system architecture and design, development of system and subsystem requirements test strategy, creation of a detailed network and IT test scenarios and procedures for validation and qualification of the product. Estimates for validation activities on bids and new projects. Configuration, deployment, troubleshooting with different network brand devices and IT solutions (server virtualization, high-availability). Hands-on and testing network and IT solution. Report any issue/bug or non-compliancy to the rest of stakeholders and Solution Engineer Manager and provide full System Verification Report to prove fully compliance with the requirements. The ITV Project Lead also provides support to other stakeholders including in-house and site teams.
Responsible for the implementation of a vigorous DCS ITV program and definition of the Work Package Description and ITV Management Plan as Work Package Manager for the validation activities. The incumbent is accountable for performing the validation and network work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages.
Act as Project Lead and Technical Lead for projects and other ITV members of the team. Responsible for the product and/or project validation progress including all ITV team members. The ITV Project Lead typically works with other discipline leads to define what will be validated based on the overall system architecture and detailed design.
Key Accountabilities:
TECHNICAL
Understanding of Work Package Management concept
Understanding and managing project risks
Experience in managing small to medium ITV teams and projects
Ability to manage projects within budget/schedule in a challenging environment
Deep understanding of the project management principles and system engineering process
Practical experience in terms of creating and executing complex test plans and test procedures
Practical experience in networking, IT, virtualization, radio-communications and Linux
Practical experience in testing
Practical experience with Cybersecurity Standards and requirements traceability
Practical experience with requirements, reviews, and validation assessment
Knowledge of requirement management and problems tracking tools (e.g ClearQuest, DOORS, Jira, etc).
Provide support to in-house and site testing
Interfaces and builds strong working relationships with all the project stakeholders (Software, Hardware, Architect, SEM, Designers) and groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issues.
Leads validation technical discussions and validation gates with internal and external stakeholders
MANAGEMENT
Supervise and coach other ITV members by defining their work based on project risks and priorities.
Provides leadership and motivation to staff. Acts as a mentor to assigned staff
Manage Testing/Validation Work Package. Plans, coordinates and monitors the performance of the work, identifies and manages risks during all the Work Package lifecycle until the closure
Ensures compliance with commitments relating to the Work Package (costs, deadlines, quality) in accordance with project plans and objectives
Ensures that the ITV strategy is defined & maintained for entire lifecycle of the project/product
Ensures that the ITV team adheres to in-scope standards and ITV plans
Proposes work package estimates and descriptions based on the knowledge of the work and project requirements.
Prepare and deliver regular status reports for internal and external stakeholders
Identify and implement process improvement initiatives
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount
Ensure that safety and security is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety and security-related defects
Key Requirements
Experience:
Minimum 10 years relevant experience in development of industrial control networks
Education:
University degree in computer sciences, electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering, system engineering or a closely related field
Technical/Specialized Knowledge:
Strong application domain (industrial control networks) knowledge
Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices
Knowledge of systems development life cycle
Knowledge of testing and validation principles and practices
Knowledge/experience in site deployment and commissioning of networks
Expert knowledge of network principles and technologies:
Ethernet/IP-based networking (switching/routing protocols);
Redundancy and high-availability technologies (Hyper-V cluster, VMware VSAN, etc) ;
Virtualization technologies (VMWare, Hyper-V)
MPLS
VPN technologies (IPSEC, IKEv1, IKEv2);
RF networking (802.11, LTE, 5G, FluidMesh, mesh-radio solutions);
Cyber-security standards, principles, technologies and solutions;
Knowledge/experience in the following fields is desired:
Railway-specific standards knowledge (e.g. IEC-61375, EN-50159, IEC 62443);
Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
Good marketing and presentation skills.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Experience in using DOORS, Jira, etc.
Rail Signaling knowledge (desirable).
Preferred Qualifications:
P.Eng licenses is desirable.
