The Opportunity:

This senior role offers the chance to be a key financial and strategic partner to the leadership team. Embedded within the business, you will drive financial performance, governance, and operational excellence while supporting delivery of ambitious growth and performance targets.

You will lead core finance responsibilities while also contributing to broader business activities including planning, pricing, commercial decision-making, and reporting. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will provide insight, strengthen financial discipline, and ensure accuracy and compliance across all operations.

A key focus of the role is building financial capability across the business through coaching and collaboration, while also playing a central role in shaping a high-performance culture aligned with KBR values.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity and can be based in either Brisbane or Canberra (preferred), Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide.

The successful candidate must be eligible to hold a Baseline AGSVA security clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end financial management for the Operating Unit, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and performance analysis.
  • Partner with leadership and operations to drive financial discipline, governance, compliance, and strong commercial outcomes.
  • Provide financial insight and decision support to enable effective strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Develop, govern, and maintain pricing models, cost structures, and financial inputs supporting bids, proposals, and growth opportunities.
  • Oversee program financial performance, including Estimates at Completion, variance analysis, and key risk and issue reporting.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and presentation of investment business cases and financial submissions.
  • Ensure robust financial controls across programs, including non-labour indirect cost management and adherence to policy and audit requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement across financial processes, reporting quality, and operational efficiency to enhance business performance and profitability.
  • Support bid and proposal activity, ensuring financial rigor and alignment with commercial strategy.
  • Build financial capability across the business through coaching, mentoring, and development of team members and stakeholders.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Strong business acumen with a commercially driven and outcomes-focused mindset.
  • Proven leadership capability, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders within a Defence or Defence industry environment.
  • Strong track record of delivering business outcomes and driving sustained performance and growth through high-quality execution.
  • Significant experience in governance, compliance, and oversight of complex programs of work, including management of multiple budgets, schedules, and teams.
  • Extensive experience in project controls within a Defence or Defence industry context.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to operate effectively at senior levels.
  • Well-established understanding and/or network within Defence and Federal Government environments, supported by strong industry knowledge.

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications such as CPA or CA.
  • MBA or equivalent postgraduate business qualification.
  • Recognised as a thought leader in the field, evidenced through publications, board participation, speaking engagements, or industry contributions.
