Job Purpose

India is an important market for GSK with an exciting portfolio of existing and pipeline offerings in place. To enable the India enterprise ambition and patient needs, the India Supply Chain head will optimize supply chain operations and ensure that commercial and supply chain are fully aligned. The company is looking to onboard an SCM leader who will envision and drive the future of GSK India’s supply chain organization. The new leader will play an integral role in re-shaping the SC function and hence presents an opportunity for the individual to leave behind the legacy of a high performing organization with positive patient impact. GSK seeks a seasoned individual with a strong manufacturing and supply chain management background to provide strategic direction and execution horsepower to transform the function and to help build its capabilities for the future.

The incumbent would:

  • Create the operations strength for GSK in India to serve the patients and customers
  • Lead a major function/operation in SC planning and logistics and is accountable for the overall GSK India operations 
  • Act as single point of accountability for the commercial organization and the India Board for all Manufacturing and Supply Chain activities in India
  • Ensure appropriate risk management and compliance across all the supply chain activities in India
  • Ensure appropriate cost management, productivity and high performance across India operations
  • Develop an efficient SC and manufacturing organisation that deliver world class performance on Safety, Quality, Service and Cost.
  • Ensure a strong succession planning and leads the talent management activities for India operations

Key Responsibilities

The individual will hold functional responsibility and will own all end-to-end supply chain operations for India including sourcing of local spend, ensuring on time material arrival, inventory management, warehouse management and driving cost reduction agenda.

  • Lead and drive the demand planning and fulfilment for GSK: A key responsibility for the individual will be to not only put in place robust demand plans and processes, but also ensure demand fulfilment. He/she will, therefore, be involved with identifying customer requirements, forecasting demand, aligning logistics and distribution capabilities with forecasts, improving the accuracy of forecasts, matching inventory levels with peaks and troughs in demand, and determining how best to fulfil requirements, including the Customer Service activities from orders processing and capturing up to final mile replenishment and managing the Warehousing and Distribution network, transportation and storage from all suppliers up to first trade customers, continuously striving to optimize the country’s Distribution Centers network. As the Head of Supply Chain, the individual will play an active role in working closely with other business functions to agree on joint business plans along the supply chain, managing 3rd party operations and enable timely sharing of data, and accurate processing of this data.
  • Lead the supply chain operations to drive delivery and cost targets across the country: The individual will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for the short-term and long-term, and for executing supply chain operations on the ground. He/she will play a key role in transforming the supply chain to simplify procedures, reduce cycle time and lower cost, in alignment with globally defined process standards and ensuring proper representation of Supply Chain in CCC (Core Commercial Cycle) related forums such as S&OP, and various other business meetings
  • Drive transformation of the supply chain process: A critical area of focus will be driving supply chain process transformation, including leveraging IT, IoT, automation technologies, and digitization. He/she will also be responsible for the re-design and optimization of existing supply chain systems and processes by leveraging technology to efficiently manage spending and ensuring governance across the supplier network. In this context, the individual will keep abreast with developments in the industry and identify opportunities to enhance business value.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships within India and at regional / global levels: The incumbent will play a key role in building, maintaining and strengthening relationships. To deliver on growth objectives and strive for efficiency would require the leader to partner with the commercial organization, across functions including also Regulatory, QA, Finance – both within India and beyond. The leader’s ability to identify and understand relevant trends, communicate and align, convince and jointly problem solve with other stakeholders would pave the way for sustainable growth and adoption of initiatives.
  • Lead, develop and continue strengthening organizational capability: The leader will be inheriting a high performing team. One of the priorities is to ensure this team operates with an appropriate sense of urgency, an entrepreneurial yet collaborative mindset while driving efficiency to build, make and deliver exceptional brands at scale. S/he must continue to attract and retain best in class talent and continue to groom talent in India for global careers. Furthermore, the leader must ensure the team stays connected with the organization’s purpose / vision and is motivated to perform. To drive professional growth, it would be critical to ensure talent is exposed to diverse opportunities and experiences, along with upskilling and capability development to meet the challenges of a growing and future ready organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree
  • Finance – P&L, resource allocation and portfolio management, forecasting, identifying opportunities and risks to the business, understanding company results and financials.
  • Project Management – Strategy Deployment, leading strategic projects
  • Operations – Manufacturing operations experience, with 2nd line leadership and extended span of control.
  • Legal – Understanding of law as it relates to local policies: competition law, corporate governance, local insight, local policies, ABAC, Data Privacy.
  • Communications- In addition to internal communication, externally with media, work councils, industry bodies.
  • Risk Management – Identifying, managing and mitigating GSK Enterprise Risk and operational risk.

  • HR – Knowledgeable about labour laws, often context specific
  • Engaging, empowering and decisive leadership style with well-developed relation building skills to build trust and credibility and establish networks across markets, Commercial and other functions at a regional and global level.
