The AFNCR IT Services program provides support services for information systems for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other Air Force activities within the AFNCR missions to include the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), and other locations, leased spaces, and alternate sites. The major support areas are IT Operations and Maintenance; Plans, Projects, and Engineering (PP&E). The senior directors and national defense missions that are supported require that the AFNCR operations never fail, resulting in a fast-paced, taxing, but also rewarding environment. 

The IT Battle Captain works with the Government Service Owners to deliver top-notch customer service and respond to the dynamic needs of the user base to meet the diverse missions of the Air Force in the NCR.

The Mission:

  • Deliver solutions to Major Incidents affecting IT services across multiple production and functional work centers

  • Lead the Major Incident Response actions across regional and functional teams from early identification of network alerts, incident management, and ensuring strategic messaging is communicated with customers and Government officials.

  • Senior leader in charge of coordination between the three Squadrons within the 844CG and supporting external service providers.

  • Manages changes made on the network through authorized service interruptions. Captures network picture pre and post change to ensure the network change was successful and properly documented.

  • Directs a team of 4-members to monitor the network and identify anomalies using critical thinking skills and technical expertise.   

  • Uses excellent communications skills, written and verbal, to be able to effectively brief Senior Leaders on status of major incidents impacts to the AFNCR customer base of 26,000 personnel. 

  • Foster working relationships with Technology vendors and mission partners within the AFDW.

  • Requires a robust understanding of how relevant IT technologies, both user-facing and back-end infrastructure technologies are applied throughout the AFNCR domain and how to identify and report on outages.

Qualifications will vary, but will mostly require:

  • Requires a BS degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or a Masters degree and 6+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience, certifications, specific Air Force IT systems experience accepted in lieu of a degree.

  • Experience operating Air Force IT systems and services.

  • Familiarity with DoD and Air Force standards, policies, and enterprise solutions.

  • Experience with complex, multi-site DoD enterprise IT environments of the size, scale, and scope of the AFNCR enterprise.

  • Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance.

 
You may also have:

  • Master’s Degree in a technology related field.

  • CompTIA Security+ or CISSP.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
