Make your mark with AIG in Ecuador as our new Head of Legal.

As Head of Legal you will oversee our local regulatory relationships and manage a wide array of complex legal, regulatory, tax, corporate governance, litigation, labor/employment and commercial matters.  You will be responsible for providing legal support to our local operation, including advising senior management.  You will be responsible for ensuring our local businesses are run in a compliant manner and facilitate our commercial objectives.  You will be responsible for identifying and analyzing significant issues and risks, and partnering with colleagues in the AIG Group Legal Department and other parts of AIG more broadly.       

How you will create an impact.

  • Participate in the strategic decisions in Ecuador as part of the Executive Committee; contribute as a leader of the local operation.
  • Manage and cultivate our local regulatory relationships in support of our business, and consistent with AIG Group policies.
  • Provide legal advice to ensure that commercial and business strategies are aligned with local law and regulation.
  • Oversee the corporate governance function of our directing writing insurance company, ensuring it meets all requirements, is governed effectively and comports with AIG Group policies.
  • Draft and review a wide range of agreements in support of our business.
  • Identify, monitor, and evaluate various and complex legal risks.
  • Analyze and advise on relevant laws and regulations in furtherance of our business; monitor relevant changes in law and regulation, analyzing changes and advising the business on impacts.
  • Oversee regulatory reports, inspections, responses and filings.
  • Function as Secretary and advisor to the Board of Directors; plan, organize, direct and supervise shareholder and board meetings; propose corporate governance changes from time to time, as necessary, in furtherance of local needs and AIG Group requirements.
  • Oversee local labor and employment matters and local non-claims litigation matters in accordance with AIG Group policies.
  • Keep AIG Group stakeholders advised on significant matters involving our local operation.
  • Partner with external counsel as appropriate.

What You will need to succeed.

Technical Skills:

  • At least 7 years of experience in financial services, in either a law firm or in-house setting.
  • Exceptional legal / regulatory counseling skills, including effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, including an ability to analyze complex legal issues with or without prior familiarity of the subject matter.
  • Ability to identify important risks, assess how they may impact the business, and ensure appropriate management attention.
  • Strategic vision, business acumen, keen commercial judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Ability to manage relationships with authorities.
  • Ability to develop credibility quickly with senior business leaders, and engage with management and other stakeholders.
  • Prior exposure to the insurance industry, regulated environments and corporate governance preferred.
  • Strong English proficiency (written and spoken).
