Salary Range: SP2, Level 4, $74,242 - $92,803 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Regulatory Applications Auditor– Hybrid (Directive 056)

The Opportunity

The Application Integrity team is responsible for conducting audits on post approval energy development applications for regulatory compliance under Directive 056, and the Public Lands Act. Applications submitted to Regulatory Applications go through assessment criteria to determine the level of upfront review. The post approval review is deemed an audit and ensures applications submitted are compliant and associated approvals are adequate for the requested authorization.

This role primarily audits Directive 056 (well, pipeline and facility) licence applications. The role requires an understanding and experience in AER Directive 056, Manual 12, Oil and Gas Conservation Act (OGCA), Oil and Gas Conservation Rules (OGCR), Pipeline Rules, AER OneStop and knowledge in Directive 008, Directive 036, Directive 071 is an asset.

Utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills, the Regulatory Application Auditor facilitates interactions and cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders, including AER groups, industry licensees, industry associations, government agencies, regulators from other jurisdictions, and other technical disciplines.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Conduct routine and/or support complex audits and reviews on operation/activities. This includes preparing audit plans, collecting and analyzing information from varied sources to determine compliance, monitor compliance plans and provide educational information to applicants to improve application submissions.

  • Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders regarding AER requirements

  • Changes and revisions to relevant Directives, manuals, FAQ’s, protocols, procedures, Bulletins and supporting policy initiatives.

  • Ensure knowledge transfer by training and mentoring less experienced staff on Directive 056 and identifying areas where technical competency needs to be built.

  • Support enterprise projects by providing technical guidance and input, assisting with the implementation into the AER’s core business functions and collaborating with stakeholders.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • Technical diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering; or equivalent education and experience.

  • 5+ years of industry or regulatory experience preferably within the oil and gas sector.

  • A strong knowledge and expertise with AER Directives 056, Manual 12, and Pipeline Rules.

  • Proficiency in using Onestop, DDS and desktop software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related applications.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills including a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information to a variety of audiences and knowledge levels.

  • Solution oriented with excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, with the ability to work cooperatively and share knowledge within a team environment.

  • Intermediate awareness of project management principles.
