As a research intern, you will collaborate with our software and research engineers to develop cutting-edge AI-powered features, impacting millions of users daily.

A Lot About You

As a research intern in our GenAI squad, you will apply and advance state-of-the-art machine learning, natural language processing, and information retrieval methods and technologies. Your scientific expertise and technical skills will be vital as you:

• Identify, scope, and formulate ill-defined problems
• Design metrics and experiments to analyze and measure results
• Review and correlate state-of-the-art approaches with existing problems to recommend solutions
• Prototype and evaluate solutions based on agreed goals, approaches, and metrics
• Generate intellectual property through patent applications and/or publications at relevant forums
• Work and communicate effectively with each partner to implement research results successfully

Leveraging relevant data and advanced machine learning techniques, you will research and prototype innovative solutions that enhance our AI capabilities and contribute to the broader Yahoo mission.

Responsibilities

• Develop next-generation features for Yahoo Finance with a focus on personalization and community enhancement.
• Collaborate closely with peers, product managers, and engineering leaders to design and implement new features and enhancements.
• Engage in hands-on development and experimentation with cutting-edge machine learning technologies and frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Apply deep learning theories and practices to solve real-world problems, including information extraction, knowledge management, and natural language processing.
• Utilize your Python programming skills within the Python data ecosystem while working comfortably in a Unix environment.
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in written form, to share ideas and contribute to team success.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a Master's, or Ph.D. program in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong foundation in computer science with a particular emphasis on machine learning and a solid understanding of deep learning theory.
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in information extraction, knowledge management, natural language processing, or computer vision.
• Solid Python programming skills and familiarity with the Python data ecosystem and machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Basic understanding of software development design patterns and debugging tools.
• Strong team player with the ability to listen, communicate personal goals clearly, and incorporate opposing opinions with thoughtful reasoning.

The compensation for this position ranges from $24-$52/hr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. Yahoo provides industry leading benefits for our interns including 401k plan, company holidays, and Summer Fridays. Eligibility requirements apply.

Yahoo has a high degree of flexibility around employee location and hybrid working. In fact, our flexible-hybrid approach to work is one of the things our employees rave about.
