The Director, US Data, Analytics and AI Risk will lead the implementation of Data, Analytics, and AI risk management programs to support BMO’s US Operations. As part of the Data, Analytics, and AI Risk group in the second line of defence for Operational Non-Financial Risk, the Director will oversee the appropriate implementation of risk frameworks that will align Enterprise requirements with local jurisdictional and evolving regulatory expectations in the US. The Director will work with a broad set of stakeholders including first and second line of defence partners to implement the methodology, metrics, and program standards for the US to ensure compliance, effective monitoring, timely reporting, and identify action plans.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Works with the Data, Analytics, and AI Risk team to ensure that risk management frameworks address US requirements including both management and regulatory expectations.
  • Act as central contact for US regulatory agencies (including the Federal Reserve and OCC) on matters relating to Data, Analytics and AI Risk.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees US specific risk reporting and preparation of senior management and board level packages as needed.
  • Independently assesses the Data, Analytics, and AI risk profile for US Operations (e.g. exposures, material initiatives, systems issues or weaknesses in the control structure). Oversees and monitors Data, Analytics and AI risk issues pertaining to the US.
  • Researches existing or emerging requirements and related best practices to develop recommendations for changes/enhancements.
  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
  • Ensures alignment between stakeholders on risks or issues impacting the US.
  • Engages with the relevant Chief Data and Analytics Officers (CDAOs) within the first line of defence to implement framework requirements specific to US Operations. Provides advice and guidance to the CDAO community on implementation of the risk framework, including effective challenge, in the context of US operations.
  • Reviews new business initiatives and monitors existing initiatives to identify potential risks or issues pertaining to the US.
  • Consults with stakeholders in first and second line of defence to improve consistency, transparency and US applicability of risk measurement, metrics and reporting.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of the governance system and framework including supporting policy/standard/operating procedures lifecycle management, education and training assessments.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and regulatory directives and guidance.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO’s US Operations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 9+ years of relevant experience as a Technology Leader (Senior Manager or Director level) and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Quantitative Statistics.
  • Expert knowledge of information and technology risk management practices.
  • Seasoned expert with extensive A.I. industry knowledge including knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements (e.g. OCC Heightened Standards, Enhanced Prudential Standards, SR 11-7/ OCC 2011-12, OSFI E-23).
  • Expert level experience with Cloud Computing, AI and ML applications, introducing A.I tools, ensure SW development practices are aligned with AI practice and BMO’s SDLC practice.
  • Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation.

Salary:

$128,000.00 - $238,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
