Job Summary:

Wellstar is seeking an innovative and community-oriented Market Communications Director to lead strategic communications across one or more hospitals, in collaboration with the hospital president, market leadership team, medical staff, and regional External Affairs partners. This role is responsible for driving internal communications and supporting the hospital through collaboration among the regional External Affairs teams, including Community Development, Marketing, Patient and Team Member Experience, and Wellstar Foundation. The ideal candidate will be a creative communicator and relationship builder, capable of aligning communication strategies with hospital priorities in patient care, innovation, and community outreach and engagement.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Internal Communications Oversee communication strategies that keep hospital team members informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational values, innovation initiatives, clinical developments, career growth and benefits, as well as other critical information. Create, edit, and manage content across market-level platforms including social media, e-newsletters and tailored, targeted hospital leadership communication. Oversee production of visuals, video, and digital media assets in collaboration with External Relations/Media team. Support leadership communications, staff updates, and change management messaging across departments. Provide communications support to hospital executive teams, HR, Wellstar Wellness, and health park(s) associated with assigned hospitals. Serve as project manager for high-visibility internal events, leading content development in support of hospital leadership and coordinating logistics with Wellstar Events team and/or external events vendor. Strategic Communications & Innovation Design and implement multi-channel communication strategies that promote the hospitals mission and innovation in care delivery. Leverage emerging technologies and platforms to modernize communication approaches, including digital storytelling, social media campaigns, and engagement tools. Media & Public Relations Participate with hospital leadership in Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), or emergency management, calls and coordinate internal and external communications responses with the External Affairs teams. Serve as liaison between market leadership and the External Relations media team; actively participate in storytelling efforts and content development and maintain positive relationships with regional media. Marketing & Branding Partner with the Marketing team to develop campaigns that promote hospital services, new programs, and strategic priorities. Ensure consistent and compelling brand messaging that maintains Wellstar brand identity across all communication platforms and touchpoints. Performance Measurement & Improvement Track communication effectiveness using analytics and KPIs; regularly report on progress and recommend refinements. In support of hospital president, participate in team-member feedback sessions and community listening to improve communication relevance and impact. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Communications Studies/Speech Communication and Rhetoric-Preferred or Bachelors Other

    Required Minimum Experience:

    Minimum 7 years of corporate/organizational communications experience in developing and managing communication strategies. Required

    Required Minimum Skills:

    Strong understanding of community health principles, public health messaging, and health literacy. High Strategic thinker who can offer actionable recommendations to improve market share, community presence, and overall reputation and effectively partner with the System to design and implement those plans. High Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with attention to tone, accessibility, and cultural relevance. High Proven success in multi-stakeholder collaboration, community development initiatives, or regional partnerships. Medium Experience in media relations, crisis communication, and fundraising communications. Medium Proficiency with digital tools, such as social media platforms, email marketing systems, and analytics dashboards. Medium Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare-related communication standards.
