BBYO Greater Vancouver, Associate Regional Director

British Columbia

BBYO, the world’s leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement, has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 100 years. We offer year-round activities in hundreds of local communities alongside inspiring world-wide travel experiences enabling teens to explore communal leadership, service, civics, Israel education and Jewish values, all while having fun, building a lifelong commitment to Jewish community, and forging friendships for life.

BBYO across Canada is growing rapidly and is now the largest Jewish teen platform nationally. Throughout British Columbia, BBYO has been shaping Jewish lives and inspiring vibrant Jewish community for decades. As the Movement looks to its next 100 years, BBYO seeks to expand its engagement of and deepen its impact on as many Jewish teens across British Columbia as possible. An ever-growing stronger BBYO Greater Vancouver will ensure that Canada’s Jewish teens have the skills, networks, and knowledge to lead Canadian, and global, Jewry in the future.

Note: The BBYO region is currently named ‘Greater Vancouver’, but its impact area is the whole of British Columbia.

Over the last couple of years, an exciting team of Jewish community leaders and leading Jewish institutions, in partnership with generations of parents and alumni, have united around a bold vision to lift BBYO Greater Vancouver to new heights. BBYO is seeking a full-time Associate Regional Director excited to lead the region through its next evolution and eager to pursue its strategic goals. This individual will partner with a team of colleagues, volunteers, and teens across the region’s Jewish communal hubs, nurture a diverse network of stakeholders, and ensure that BBYO is providing a best-in-class experience for Jewish teens that’s meaningful, transformative, fun, and professional.

This BBYO Greater Vancouver team member will continue to strengthen a strategic partnership with the JCC of Greater Vancouver by leading on a myriad of engagement strategies year-round – on the JCC campus, in local public and private schools, at popular venues throughout the area, and via specialty experiences like the JCC Maccabi Games.

You:

You love working with teens. You’re creative, quick on your feet, and like your job to change every day. You’re not the kind of person who wants to sit behind a desk. You have an infectious personality and love getting others to join you in changing the world. You're a problem solver, skilled at juggling multiple priorities at once, and you enjoy being a part of a team.

We’re seeking a professional that is a self-starter, energetic, detail-oriented, organized and can work well in a team setting. Strong candidates are charismatic, have strong people skills, tested program experience, able to relate to teens and utilize their abilities to achieve BBYO’s mission of engaging more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences.

S/he will possess a skill set that includes strong customer service skills, logical thinking, creative and professional writing, and event planning. You should be fearless about reaching out to anyone, and eager to take calculated programmatic risks that have often never been tested before. Candidates should be excited about an opportunity that goes beyond being only a youth-facing professional; we’re looking for someone who wants to build a brand, advocate for the Jewish community to embrace the voices and imaginations of its youth and run a highly professional affiliate of BBYO’s global movement. This is a role where you will grow your community building, programming, event planning, communications, fundraising, and business operations skills in a variety of ways.

Us:

We’re a global network of passionate professionals working to amplify Jewish teen life worldwide. We are the Jewish community’s largest and fastest growing pluralistic platform for reaching and inspiring Jewish teens, built on 100 years of storied history. We do this challenging and invigorating work through our partners in more than 725 local, teen-led chapters across more than 60 countries, at hundreds of weekend retreats during the school year and across a rapidly growing suite of global exchanges, campaigns and movement initiatives all year-round. Over the summer, we run dozens of immersive experiences including extensive Israel travel, missions and community tours across six continents, and a myriad of leadership camps. Our team is strong, agile, creative, inclusive and every day is different by design. We are fast-paced, high-energy, and results-driven, and we enjoy working together almost as much as we believe in the mission we are chasing together.

What you’ll get to do as our Associate Regional Director:

  • Work with teens to create impactful, fun and dynamic programs including large scale community projects and overnight conventions each year
  • Mentor teens and volunteer advisors to build strong, vibrant teen-led chapters across BC
  • Work directly with teens to expand BBYO’s membership and impact regionally
  • Build, sustain, and evolve meaningful partnerships and networks in the community
  • Attend summer camp (this time you’re in charge!) and BBYO global convenings
  • Develop and manage programming, oversee program budgets, and grow management skills
  • Empower and inspire teens and volunteer advisors through mentorship, coaching, and training
  • Lead on building relationships with local schools to strengthen BBYO and JCC/community brand visibility with under-affiliated and unaffiliated Jewish teens
  • Support the JCC Teen Lounge (and its related teen programming), connect teens to JCC volunteer and JCC camp employment opportunities, promote JCC specialty classes, lead teen presence at community events and festivals, and assist with other primary JCC teen activities

What you’ll learn as our Associate Regional Director:

  • A wide array of non-profit skills including budgeting, membership, marketing, sales, human resources, event planning and more
  • How to track and analyze business metrics, negotiate contracts, and build partnerships
  • How to work with a global team and across organizational and geographical boundaries
  • Relationship building as you network with and travel to other BBYO communities
  • Supervisory skills as you manage a team of colleagues, teens, and volunteers
  • Professionalism and the ability to inspire and influence others to action

Role Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of work experience; (i.e., teen/community programming, event operations, etc.)
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience with youth or teens is preferred; experience leading teams or projects is preferred
  • Ownership of a vehicle is not required, but a valid driver’s license is needed for this position
  • Ability to travel as needed and to staff a summer leadership program at a location in North America for 2-3 weeks each summer, attend International Convention (every February), and BBYO Staff Conference, as well as other opportunities as relevant
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (nights and weekends) when teens are available
  • It would be great if you spoke Russian, Hebrew, French or other languages

Compensation will be commensurate based on experience (tentative range of $50,000 to $62,500). BBYO provides generous vacation time and sick time, paid time off on secular and Jewish holidays, as well as excellent opportunities for ongoing professional development. This is a role with long-term career trajectory and awesome opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on projects across Canada, throughout North America, and around the world. The position will be built and supported to maintain a flexible work environment to help foster your preferred work-life blend.
