Markets Control Lead Analyst - Derivatives Accounting

Markets Controllers, the largest department in Finance, is primarily responsible for controlling daily profit and loss reporting, price verification and trading activity for the Markets businesses. We work closely across functions on a daily basis (including the Trading desks, Risk Management, Operations, and other areas of Finance) and develop a deep understanding of the products traded, along with the associated market risks and accounting complexities.

Responsibilities:

  • Ultimately accountable for the control design of the team including timely completion and monitoring of control activities; ensuring compliance with Citi policies.
  • Manage the scope of work that belong under the team’s mandate and participate in process migrations as required
  • Hire and retain talent, coaching supervisors of individual teams
  • Represent the teams on local and regional management meeting, ensuring smooth flow of communication and messages.
  • Ensure issues are highlighted in a timely manner. Focus on recurring issues and drive through enhancement projects and systems fixes
  • Support standardization efforts and work on strategic as well as ad-hoc projects to improve Citi’s Markets Control system infrastructure and processes, implement process improvement ideas
  • Use your experience and knowledge to drive and contribute to outstanding team performance
  • Ensure that all deliverables are met, regulatory deadlines are kept and audit rating is satisfactory
  • Evaluate and resolve complex issues and select the best action by weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting needs

Ideal background:

  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience
  • A university or college degree in Finance/Accounting is an advantage but not a must as we are open to other majors
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Confident analytical and communication skills
  • Controls focused mind-set
  • Strong PC skills in Excel, Word. Training will be provided on other in house and industry standard systems used in this position.
  • Knowledge of or demonstrated interest in financial products is an advantage.
  • Good financial accounting skills
  • Ability to inspire and lead a group of professionals and to influence senior management
  • A self-starter who proactively seeks to improve existing controls and streamline processes both from a tactical short term viewpoint, and also from a strategic long-term perspective, and implement these initiatives to completion
  • Hands-on. Must have a good eye for detail, but also be able to communicate to seniors in a succinct/clear fashion
