R&D within AIDA (AI, Data and Analytics), is a Pfizer Digital organization responsible for the development and management of all data, analytics tools and platforms across the enterprise – from global research and development, to manufacturing, to commercial, to patient care across over 100+ countries.   One of the team’s top priorities is the advancement of AI/ML enabled analytics and the creation of data solutions that can be leveraged across the enterprise.

R&D in AIDA holds responsibility for the development and operations of the aggregate data solutions (data lakes and associated application portfolios) supporting Pfizer’s scientific and clinical functions. 

The Sr. Associate Solution Engineer will develop scientific information software with a team of peer developers, digital client partners, architects, platform leads and contract support personnel under the direction of a senior software developer.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Work within project teams as a contributor to design, prototype, implement and unit test software solutions in support of the project objectives.  

  • Translate logical designs of user/system interfaces into physical designs, considering the target environment, performance requirements and existing systems. 

  • Work in a matrix, team environment with Pfizer colleagues as well as vendor partners.  

  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.  

  • Focus on growing as an engineer, learning existing tools, resources and DevOps processes.

  • Develop productivity skills by learning source control, editors (IDE), build systems (CI/CD), Cloud platforms (Atlassian, GitHub, AWS), and other tools as well as unit testing best practices.   

  • Accept feedback graciously and learn from everything they do .

  • Work under general supervision using own judgement where needed.  

  • Proactively reporting issues and enhancements.

  • Documenting processes.

  • Debugging and fixing simple to moderately complex technical issues.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field.

  • At least 3 years of experience as a software developer/engineer .

  • Demonstrated skills in analysis and problem solving .

  • Fundamental knowledge of Kubernetes.

  • Programming using Python and Java. 

  • Knowledge using GitHub for source control and Git Actions for CICD workflows. 

  • Understand modern software engineering, including coding standard, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and releasing. 

  • Knowledge of database interaction languages such as SQL (PySpark is an advantage).  

  • Comfortable using collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence and MS Teams. 

  • Ability to challenge, improve and develop existing practices & processes. 

  • Self-motivated with the ability to drive work forward and work well in a geographically dispersed, virtual team environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge in operating and managing AWS infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies (ie Scrum) .
  • Knowledge of ELK or OpenSearch is an advantage.
