Division overview

Brookfield Renewable is recruiting for an Investment Analyst, in our Sydney office. The role represents an exciting opportunity to join a growing and dynamic global team. This professional will support the assessment and execution of investment opportunities in the renewable power, industrial energy transition, and hard-to-abate green house gas emissions sectors. This includes investments for Brookfield Global Transition Fund (BGTF) I and II, which are Brookfield’s primary platforms for investing in the global net zero transition.

BGTF I is the world’s largest private fund dedicated to the acceleration of the global transition to net zero, with total capital raised of USD$15 billion. BGTF II, the second vintage of the BGTF series, announced its first close in February 2024 at USD $10 billion and is expected reach USD $17 billion at final close in 2024.

Reporting to Vice President, Renewable Power and Transition, Investments, the role offers the opportunity to assist with investing activities. This includes performing various aspects of detailed analysis and due diligence in the execution of potential new investments and management of existing assets.

Role overview

We are seeking an Investment Analyst to work with our Renewable Power and Transition, Australia team to identify, diligence, execute, and manage new investments. Specific activities for the role include:

screening for investment opportunities, performing complex financial analysis and valuations, performing commercial, technical and impact due diligence on investment candidates, presenting investment, restructuring or divestment recommendations, and developing strategy papers and competitive analysis on new sectors to support the investment decision process.

Primary focus will be in Australia and New Zealand however the role may include working across integrated teams within the greater Asia Pacific Region.

Purpose of the role:

The role offers the opportunity to play a key role in Brookfield’s Australian Renewables Investment team that invests in renewable energy infrastructure, opportunities for decarbonisation of industrial processes and generation, and low carbon solution assets  across Australia and the broader Asia Pacific region from Brookfield’s infrastructure funds.

You will be responsible for performing research and leading sections of financial analysis, modelling and presentations to support the development of investment strategies and identify attractive transaction opportunities. You will also be responsible for undertaking due diligence across various opportunities, and will be involved in a range of acquisitions, divestments and asset management initiatives.

This role is best suited to someone with a:

  • strong interest in clean energy  and real assets;
  • the ability to contribute to investment ideas that align to fund mandates;
  • sound commercial judgement, the ability to clearly articulate a situation, the relevant, considerations and make well-reasoned recommendation(s);
  • is able to work collaboratively within investments team and with other business stakeholders to achieve outcomes;
  • manages multiple projects, prioritises appropriately, and meets deadlines; and
  • a proactive, self-starter who is capable of working by themselves or as part of a larger team.

Responsible for:

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Contribute to investment sourcing and execution
  • Assist in targeting and evaluating new investment opportunities in clean energy, business transformations, and low carbon solutions.
  • Assist in developing ideas for potential transaction and deal structures, perform industry research and evaluate new market segments and potential opportunities;
  • Assess potential investments through building detailed financial models to evaluate potential transactions and company/industry research;
  • Assess potential investment opportunities’ potential decarbonization impact consistent with Brookfield Global Transition Fund’s impact measurement and management approach;
  • Work with operating teams across the organization as a key aspect of the planning and completion of due diligence;
  • Project management of teams across the organization to assess green house gas reduction and development opportunities for potential investments;
  • Prepare investment committee materials and other transaction documents;
  • Contribute to a flexible, dynamic, and team-oriented working culture that fosters personal development and a positive attitude; Conducting special projects, as required;
  • Identify and assess potential risks and devise appropriate risk mitigation strategies;
  • Assist with the preparation of high-quality investment committee and co-investor presentation materials and other supporting documents in a clear and concise manner;
  • Build financial models that include operational, financing, tax, valuation and other relevant aspects to support financial analysis;
  • Work with Brookfield’s operational teams and advisors to progress due diligence and asset management-related analysis;
  • Assist with the asset management of allocated portfolio companies, by monitoring performance of portfolio companies, assisting with strategic initiatives and participating in special projects as required.

Qualifications/ Experience/Skills

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in private equity, infrastructure or renewables investment management, or investment banking;
  • High level of proficiency in Excel, Power Point, and other applications typically required within an investment analysis role;
  • Strong financial modelling skills and experience;
  • Possesses strong understanding of investment analyses and financial acumen including:
    • Accounting concepts and analysis of financial statements
    • Capital structures and debt securities including project finance
    • Understanding of the end-to-end deal process
    • Various valuation techniques, including using IRRs, discounted cash flows, NPVs and debt ratios
  • Clear verbal communication and succinct written communication;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Fluency in English is essential, additional Asian languages are an advantage;
  • Experience in conducting research, due diligence; and
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
