We are primarily looking for someone for either our Boston or SOHO NY office - this role is hybrid in the office three days a week.

The Principal, CVS Health Ventures, will have accountability at a program level for early and mid-stage investments in CVS Health Ventures’ dedicated venture capital fund.

Responsibilities will include managing the end-to-end deal process as well as continued portfolio and relationship management. Additionally, they will be responsible for ongoing strategic development of the team function, often facilitating and guiding others to execute on behalf of their established strategy.

  • Sourcing: The Principal will be expected to identify new investment themes, manage thesis development process and, qualify specific sourcing opportunities to determine fit against CVS Health Ventures criteria and help the team “win the deal”
  • Diligence: The Principal will oversee diligence of key deals, determining critical areas to review & lean in. The individual will have capacity to drive financial modelling, memo development and oversee contributing work from junior members. They will have the ability to drive the end-to-end process in preparing executive level materials to persuade investment decisions.
  • Execution: The Principal will be a key negotiator and representative on behalf of the team to both start-up leadership and internal business units
  • Portfolio Support: The Principal will represent CVS Health Ventures via board observer seats and be a key advisor to portfolio companies providing “value-add” activities

Additionally, the Principal will be responsible for developing and communicating strategic insights which will support investment thesis development and strategic communication with internal CVS Health business units. The Principal, will have influence on CVS Health business strategies through relationships at senior levels and demonstration of strong expertise in digital health and health care innovation. The Principal will be a people manager, building and leading the team to execute on behalf of the program goals. They will be responsible for setting strategy of the team and ensuring successful delegation of tasks. They will help ensure a successful team culture while building talent across the full team.

Overall, the Principal will hold a key position within the broader CVS Health Ventures strategy in ensuring success of the early and mid-stage investment program.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of healthcare experience in business roles- corporate development, innovation, venture capital/private equity or strategy
  • 2+ years of experience in executing investment transactions
  • Experience serving or working with venture capital funded company boards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience evaluating and executing venture capital investments
  • Experience serving on venture capital company boards in observer and/or director roles
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, with executive presence and the ability to influence across functions at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrates high level of independent judgment and proactivity
  • Able to provide positive leadership across multiple, complex work streams resulting in unified deliverables and executive narratives
  • Experience building and leading high performing teams
  • Financial analysis skills in a venture capital setting, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel
  • Shown presentation skills, including familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
