Project Manager Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Initiate project schedules based on information provided by the Sales, SE and customer and maintain & communicate accurate milestone dates (e.g. H date) throughout the project.
  • Ensure all relevant stakeholders within Ciena Lines of Business (Implementation, Engineering, Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Partners, etc.) and the customer understands and takes ownership for the deliverables required by the project management plan
  • Coordinate with OM and PM tracking implementation of the project against established schedules.
  • Provide primary source of project reporting in support of assigned project team.
  • Project management plans fully documenting the stakeholders, the methodology, processes and procedures to be utilized during the implementation.
  • Schedule management and coordination of project milestones and deliverables
  • Activity and Resource Schedules. Actively participate in the activity and resource (human arid material) planning with each of the regions to develop a single cohesive project plan & schedule to meet deliverable requirements (specification, time, cost and quality). Schedules will be authored in Microsoft Project.
  • Scope and scope change (change order process)
  • Quality by maintaining project documents per the Ciena Networks PM process
  • Co-ordinates and manages the individual teams and communications among the customer, Ciena Networks, and other partners
  • Risk identification, quantification and mitigation
  • Provide day-to-day support of various supply chain activities associated with the successful implementation of a project, e.g. tracking materials.
  • Prepare and distribute regularly scheduled project-related reports, as required, for both internal and external customers.
  • Support working-level PPR meetings within the COL teams and prepares consolidated project profitability (PPR) charts, as required, for executive reviews.
  • Single point of contact for the project team facilitating effective resource management, escalation, approvals process, scheduling, communication and reporting
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relationships at the project level
  • Organize and chair meetings and conference calls (both internal and customer) to evaluate progress and address issues
  • Manage project scope through implementation of the Change Management Plan
  • Identify project milestones for supporting vendors, incorporate into project plan, monitor, and provide escalation
  • Develop and maintain the Project Schedule, which will include a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): schedule updated weekly
  • Establish a Responsibility Assignment Matrix
  • Establish a Communications Plan
  • Generate periodic reports (both internal and customer) concerning project issues and progress status
  • Obtain customer acceptance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
