Through strategic, financial and technical pension and group benefit expertise, the mandate of the Pensions & Benefits Centre of Excellence (“COE”) at Loblaw Companies Limited is to oversee the wealth and health strategies for the group of Companies which includes George Weston Limited, the Loblaw Group of Companies (including Shoppers Drug Mart) and Choice Properties REIT.

 

Join Loblaw as a Senior Analyst in Pension Investments, reporting directly to the Senior Director, Pension Investments. In this role, you will be a key member of the team providing investment operations support and ensuring compliance for retirement and savings programs across our group of companies. This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and apply your strong analytical skills while managing multiple projects to drive impactful results within our diverse organization.

 

Please note that the successful candidate will be expected to work 4 days in office - at least 2 days at our Bathurst & Lakeshore location, and up to 2 days at the Brampton location (Mississauga Rd & 407).

Role and Responsibilities:

A successful candidate will be a key member of the team providing essential support for our retirement and savings programs:

  • Prepare rebalancing calculation of the DB pension fund assets allocation and related transfer authorizations (monthly)

  • Review investment manager and custody invoices, prepare payment authorizations (quarterly or monthly)

  • Prepare asset allocation and investment performance reports, reconcile custody assets to manager reports, investigate policy target deviations or investment performance discrepancies (monthly)

  • Analyze investment performance attribution and investment compliance of external managers and participate in investment manager meetings (quarterly)

  • Update liability proxy calculations and surplus-at-risk for each DB plan (annually)

  • Support the governance process by preparing investment presentations to management and board committees

  • Support annual pension audits by compiling required data schedules for the 3rd party accounting firm and the auditors.

  • Support the team on retirement and savings program strategy.

Qualifications:  

  • College or university degree, preferably in science or business

  • Interest in investment or accounting profession, such as obtaining or working towards a CFA or CPA designation, is an asset

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a finance or investment-related role is preferred

  • Strong analytical skills with utmost attention to detail

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data/finance functions) – a test will be administered

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage and be accountable for multiple concurrent projects

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in an understandable way (written and verbal) 

  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors

  • Strong desire to continue to learn and be adaptable to change
