Job Description
What is the opportunity?
As Senior Manager, Employee Relations, Health and Safety, you will perform a critical role in helping to champion workplace health and safety and accommodations across all areas of RBC in multiple geographies (e.g., UK, Europe).
RBC’s Employee Relations team provides advice and counsel to executives, people leaders and employees on various workplace situations, providing a fair and transparent employee experience while managing risk to RBC.
In this dynamic environment, you will lead on the delivery of RBC’s policies in support of the health and safety of all employees.
You will be responsible for implementation of associated arrangements in the geographies we support, including risk assessments (and mitigating measures), information, instruction and training, incident / injury reporting, and facilitating reporting to Boards and other senior leaders.
In this role, you will work with a broad set of stakeholders including members of the Corporate Real Estate team in relation to premises-related health and safety risks, the Employee Relations team, Human Resources, and other business and functional partner.
What will you do?
Evolve and maintain RBC’s Workplace Health and Safety Policy for UK and Europe.
Support RBC’s Health and Safety Programs by overseeing health and safety processes and procedures, which you have ensured are maintained and up to date.
Conduct risk assessments, monitor the implementation of risk mitigation measures, and ensure that the appropriate records are maintained and made available as required.
Lead management of occupational health and safety investigations ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and record-keeping.
Provide advice and counsel related to accommodation matters.
Provide subject matter expertise and advice to HR partners, people managers and others to ensure reputable occupational health and safety advice is provided to businesses, functions and HR teams.
Issue instructions and other information to managers and employees, and ensure required training is provided.
Work with HR and country leadership to meet RBC’s obligations in relation to information, consultation and co-determination with works councils and other staff representatives.
Manage occupational health and safety and accommodation matters including supporting advisors and senior advisors’ ability to give advice and facilitate solutions to all types of matters.
Plan, execute and deliver projects including managing scope, requirement, changes, multiple and competing demands and priorities as well as determining and conveying impact on budget, time and risk using appropriate fact-based metrics / assumptions.
Work closely with Employee Relations Directors or Senior Directors and Senior Leaders on individual files as well as enterprise initiatives and projects.
Facilitate reporting on Health and Safety to regional Boards, including the collation and presentation of suitable performance metrics.
Support senior management with the development of training, resources, guidelines, processes and tools to facilitate RBC’s’ ability to meet its priorities in the areas of health and safety and accommodations.
Build and maintain relationships with key partners and stakeholders to advance strategic priorities, and impact and influence the approach to programs.
Balance multiple short-term and long-term priorities through demonstrated organizational and prioritisation skills.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Strong and direct experience in Occupational Health and Safety or Employee Relations.
Demonstrated and applied knowledge of UK occupational health and safety law and regulations (including workplace standards / requirements) and accommodation requirements.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, able to juggle and prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously while delivering on commitments.
Thought leadership, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent collaboration capabilities and ability to engage others to work towards a shared vision and common goals.
Experience establishing and managing relationships with executives and senior level stakeholders with the ability to impact and influence.
Strong track record of successful and timely delivery on projects and/or initiatives.
Ability to drive change in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances, to handle confidential information and escalate issues when appropriate with a high degree of professionalism and organisational awareness.
Strong sense of accountability, high-quality judgement and sound decision-making.
Demonstrated experience in aligning and integrating risk management with business, HR and occupational health and safety strategy.
Nice to have
Qualified lawyer and/or experience in Employee Relations.
Familiarity with cross-functional and/or global projects.
Degree or equivalent/similar in Health and Safety.
Professional qualifications relevant to Health and Safety, e.g. NEBOSH.
Experience in working in relation to Europe jurisdictions as regards Health and Safety.
Current knowledge of working time regulations and risks related to workplace stress (including the right to disconnect).
