Looking for a company where you can shape how the world buys, sells, and gives? Where you’ll be part of a work culture that’s been genuinely committed to diversity and inclusion since its founding more than 25 years ago? Where you can just be yourself, do your best work, and have a meaningful impact? If so, we’d love to talk to you.

Every day, millions of users sell and ship their wares using eBay. Our team supports this diverse community by building shipping products around the globe, helping individual sellers and small businesses to meet the growing expectations of online buyers. We are an agile team who adapt quickly and stay curious. Join us to make an impact on one of the world’s largest e-commerce websites.

What you'll do and learn:

Building and leading eBay's Global Shipping teams, hiring new people, developing individuals and the team as a whole.

Working closely with your team, product managers and external partners to plan and enable our product delivery by carefully balancing this with the needs of technical improvements and high software quality.

Advocate and advance our Agile and engineering practices, constantly improving quality and our architecture: building micro-services, migrating legacy applications, proposing new tools and changing processes.

You’ll mainly be working with Java/Spring and JavaScript/React across our entire stack and infrastructure, including internal and external APIs, enterprise distributed systems, services and tools.

What you bring:

Leadership: Running large teams of 8 to 10 developers or more. Leading discussions and decision-making is part of your expertise. Removing roadblocks and helping the team deliver high quality products to our customers comes easy to you. You thrive at mentoring, coaching, and growing people to reach their full potential.

Technical Expertise: You have led large engineering efforts and projects, either greenfield or developed on established technology stacks. You have experience of providing technical expertise and leadership in building highly available, distributed systems at scale. You have significant experience in navigating teams through legacy tech stacks, guiding the evolution of those stacks to modern fault tolerant, highly available systems. All of this while continuing to deliver features and capabilities which bring value to our customers and distinguish us from our competitors.
You are not expected to be hands on. But ability to understand characteristics and attributes of clean code, review PRs and mentor junior devs in good coding practices is a must have.

Communication: As a key partner and interface between engineering teams, product management and the business you are just as good at listening as you are at communicating. You can clearly articulate your thought process and are proficient in translating between engineering and business people.

Agile: TDD, pair programming and continuous delivery are at the core of our culture. With your experience and drive, you can help our team innovate further in agility and efficiency.

Recruitment: You are expected to take a lead in defining as well as refining the hiring practices, not just for your team but for broader eBay Shipping. This involves taking a lead in building technical and non technical interview techniques and artifacts which allow us to hire the right candidates both from a technical and cultural perspective.

Collaboration: You can bring people from different teams and fields together and lead towards a common goal - globally across locations and time zones. You are able to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

What we bring:

Rewarding technical challenges - fixing eCommerce delivery requires solving complex technical problems: building unified shipping platforms for diverse customers, iterating fast while providing the best customer experience, constantly improving our technology while dealing with the eBay volume is what we do best.

Wonderful air-conditioned offices in Shoreditch, with bike racks (and shower!), right next to Liverpool St and Shoreditch High Street stations for super easy commuting, and lots of great food options nearby.

Great company culture - at eBay we value respect and high expectations of others. We love sharing a drink in our Friday All Hands and enjoy company sponsored lunches on the days we are in the office

Flexible working - really great support for working from home
