Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Nozzle Design/ Principal Nozzle Design Engineer to join our Process Engineering team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located in Promontory, UT

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Nozzle Design Engineer is responsible for designing solid rocket motor nozzles for a variety of government and commercial programs.   This individual will use their engineering knowledge and creativity to develop design solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements. 

  • Provide accurate, on-time 3D models, drawings and specifications for next generation nozzle designs

  • Conduct and lead trade studies 

  • Define, develop, and qualify design changes

  • Perform preliminary structural analysis of nozzle components

  • Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering teams in the design, test, and production phases of a project

  • Interact with development teams (including specialists in Manufacturing, Quality, Safety,  Thermal, Structural, Materials, and Test) to certify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)

  • Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers 

  • Perform anomaly resolution and conduct special studies 

  • Participate in postfire evaluations of nozzle hardware 

Basic Qualifications:

This position can be filled at either a level 2 or level 3.

Basic Qualifications for a level 2:  

  • BS degree in Engineering ((Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural) required and 2 years’ experience 0 Years with Masters

Basic Qualifications for a level 3:  

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural) required and 5 years’ experience or 3 Years with Masters

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work on site at Promontory 3 days a week

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $75,300.00 - $112,900.00Salary Range 2: $92,600.00 - $139,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
