Lumentum is seeking to hire a Process Automation Software Engineer for our Ottawa based team. The position requires an on-site presence.

As a Process Automation Software Engineer, you will be designing, developing, testing, and supporting software applications for process automation in R&D and manufacturing. You will work alongside our process R&D teams during the development of new products.

You will:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and deploy automation test software to interface with optical modules and test instruments, primarily MEMS mirror testing, and Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) based optical block alignment.
  • Write hardware drivers for new instrumentation and test equipment.
  • Become familiar with manufacturing processes and run manufacturing tests in the lab and manufacturing sites to validate new SW deployments.
  • Apply best practices throughout the software lifecycle:
    • Design documentation
    • API documentation
    • Unit Testing
    • Continuous integration
  • Investigate, document, and resolve software & process related failures.
  • Support process engineers at our manufacturing sites in North America and Asia.
  • Develop novel ways to perform manufacturing automation.
  • Lead and participate in brainstorming sessions to improve process automation cycle times and robustness.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, and Computer Engineering

                                                        

Required Qualifications:            

  • Desire to learn, succeed, and to do things right the first time.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong object-oriented software design and implementation (VB.NET and C#).
  • Knowledge of free space optics and fiber optics is a strong asset.
  • Experience in motion, instrument automation, and electrical probing is an asset.
  • Experience with optical instrumentation and optical fiber handling is an asset.
