The pay range is $69,000.00 - $124,200.00

As the Manager Sustainability, Supplier Decarbonization you will enable, wire, drive, and simplify sustainability for Target’s business partners in service of our Net Zero/Scope 3 goals.  In this role, you will be a change agent dedicated to building expertise (subject matter topics, understanding of key partners, and most relevant Target Forward goals) and translating that expertise into portfolio leadership (analysis, priority areas, communication to teams, enablement of key factors for activation, approvals at all levels).  You will support the design of strategies and initiatives for key business partners within the organization, acting as an advocate for Target Forward across the business and with suppliers.

  • Drive Scope 3 Emissions Reductions across categories such as Use of Sold Products and Purchased Goods & Services;  Support development of a strategy to enable Scope 3 reductions in service to our goal of achieving Net Zero GHG Emissions for 2030 and 2040.  

  • Align strategy and priorities with business partners. Collaborate across the enterprise for input, coordination, and execution, including leads in Sustainable Brands, Merchandising, Finance, Responsible Design, Responsible and Sustainable Sourcing, Innovation, Marketing, and Guest Insights;  drive strategy and implementation in service of our use of sold products and purchased goods and services emissions reduction goals and establish routines to plan, track, and communicate all deliverables and outcomes

  • Benchmarking and Data insights.  Work with internal and external experts to analyze external environment of science, policies, standards, markets, guests, and competition, as well as internal financial and ESG data, to identify opportunities; identify KPI’s and create performance dashboards to provide analytical insights; highlight gaps and acceleration opportunities; establish, share and highlight best practices. 

  • Manage Strategic Partnerships and policy initiatives with NGOs, trade associations, and government agencies supporting Scope 3 decarbonization, including initiatives to accelerate adoption of clean and renewable energy in the supply chain, improve standards and methodologies, and promote innovation in low to negative carbon products: Coordinate with Sustainability Policy and Government team on key initiatives.     

  • Develop and maintain sustainability/Scope 3 expertise: Apply a depth of understanding on the latest science, technologies, priorities, process, partners, relevant Target Forward goals, guest and competitive landscape to advance our 2030 and 2040 scope 3 carbon goals​; build internal and external networks to deepen acumen and understanding and participate in conferences, webinars, and other industry forums as appropriate to remain current on developments and emerging strategies

  • Build sustainability training/acumen: build and execute a cohesive education and socialization plan for pyramids and partners.  Partner with Sustainable Brands/Products teams, Responsible Sourcing, Innovation, and Business Integration teams for maximum reach and capacity optimization​ 

  • Advise Sustainable Brands/Products teams on latest best practices, certifications, and claims for low to negative LCA products to support an enhanced, sustainable assortment: Through collaboration with Sustainable Brands and Product leads, build a market-leading assortment that delivers business objectives, connects with the guest, and achieves Target Forward environmental and inclusivity goals, including reductions in Scope 3 emissions. 

  • Support the enterprise-wide climate strategy narrative.   Manage the Enterprise Climate CFT and coordinate with internal and external communications teams to share and highlight best practices and achievements through narratives, events, and strategic business reports.

About you: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, environmental sciences, engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3+ years’ experience supporting innovation, sustainability, organizational transformation, consulting, product labelling or similar initiatives; experience must include project management, process, and organizational skills, including handling and prioritizing multiple responsibilities to achieve strategic objectives 

  • General knowledge of Retail, Consumer Goods, Electronics, Appliances and related industries preferred

  • Comprehensive research and analytical skills; ability to gather relevant information quickly related to consumers, industries, competitors, or business performance and synthesize it into concrete information and insights  

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability navigate ambiguity, actively listen, dialogue freely, continuously learn, and influence others 

  • Experience crafting and delivering presentations to senior leaders and broad audiences 

  • Able to simplify complex concepts into effective written or verbal communication 

  • Ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively, internally and externally, across all levels of an organization

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and distill complex issues into actionable plans

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to develop effective and collaborative relationships with key business leaders in order to drive accountability, instill confidence, and influence outcomes across business functions

  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks or projects in response to changing, ambiguous or competing priorities

  • Highly organized, with strong detail orientation and a focus on accuracy

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
