Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) is seeking a Strategic Planning Director 1 to join our diverse team of professionals. The Director will report to the TSSD vice president and general manager and will lead all aspects of the division strategy and long-range planning, to include the following:

  • Strategy Deployment Process (SDP): Lead the division process to develop and measure an integrated division strategy aligned with sector and corporate imperatives. Partner with business units and functions to define ‘target’ and ‘stretch’ objectives, strategic gaps, and outcomes needed to meet division annual and long-range strategic goals.
  • Mission and Technology Roadmaps: Assess and influence long-term mission needs to identify future capabilities needed, investments necessary to close the gap, and acquisition strategies to deliver capability to mission.
  • Strategic Gap Analysis: Lead strategic gap analysis with BU’s and functions to identify technology, capability, or process gaps, prioritize them, and align resources to meet them.
  • Internal Investment (NCTA): Drive division process to prioritize Business Unit (BU) investment requests, aligned with TSSD strategy and gaps, and allocate resources. Develop candidates for sector-level technology gap funding, advocate for those resources, and manage division projects funded with sector and division funds.
  • Business Development Integration: Seamlessly partner with division Business Development director for customer influence, pipeline evaluation, strategic analysis, and other competitive initiatives.
  • Strategic Studies: Lead strategic arena, technology, competitor, or capability studies and provide strategic actions recommendations, to include analysis of M&A and partnerships to support strategic innovations and future capabilities.
  • Cross-Division Business Insight: Develop and maintain inter-division relationships and business collaboration with other divisions.  Participate in all intra-sector Business Strategy Team reviews.
  • Mission Solution Engineering: Provide functional homeroom support, career management and leadership to TSSD’s division-level engineering SMEs, working high-priority deliverables and studies to influence customer interface and outcomes aligned to TSSD’s mid-term strategic priorities.
  • Align Division equities with sector and corporate campaigns.
  • In partnership with VP Engineering and Business Unit VPs, shape technology strategy, product roadmaps, engineering skill mix, and multi-year investment profiles.
  • In partnership with VP Ops and CFO, validate facilities, real-estate, manufacturing and operations plans.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 10+ years of experience within the DoD/Intel space community.
  • 10+ years management experience (direct-reports or via projects/teams).
  • Detailed understanding of Tactical Space Systems’ customers, competitors, and products.
  • Experience creating strategies, gap analysis, and associated investment plans.
  • Proven and effective executive-level briefing, writing and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and leadership skills in support of culture change and DE&I initiatives.
  • Current TS and/or current SSBI clearance at the time of application
  • US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MSC or equivalent.
  • Proven experience executing a Strategy Deployment Process for $100M+ space enterprise.
  • Northrop Grumman internal long-range strategic development process experience.
  • Northrop Grumman internal investment process experience.
  • OU P&L or large program execution responsibility.  
  • Led capture or strategic opportunity of >$500M.
  • Enterprise-level Leadership experience supporting employee affinity/resource groups.

Salary Range: $190,600.00 - $286,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
