About Etched

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep chain-of-thought reasoning.

Lab Engineering Technician

We are looking for a versatile and skilled Engineering Lab Technician to join our dynamic team, where you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering projects. As an Engineering Lab Technician at Etched, you will be instrumental in assisting our engineering teams across various disciplines, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical engineering. This role requires a hands-on approach to setting up experiments, performing light debug tasks, collecting data, and maintaining the organization and functionality of our state-of-the-art labs.

Representative Projects:

  • Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and mechanical engineers to set up and maintain test systems.
  • Assist in developing and lightly debugging test fixtures and lab setups.
  • Collect data and perform basic analysis to support electrical engineering projects
  • Carry out light rework and electrical soldering as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot water cooling setups and other lab equipment.
  • Ensure general lab maintenance for optimal operation and safety.
  • Provide timely technical support for various testing and project needs.
  • Oversee lab activities, including setup, equipment maintenance, and supply procurement for the lab.

You maybe a good fit if you have

  • Proven experience as a lab technician or similar role in an engineering environment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuitry and soldering techniques.
  • Familiarity with water cooling systems and general lab maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experienced and comfortable safely working around 50V high volt servers.
  • Relevant technical certification or associate’s degree in engineering technology is preferred but not required.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.

How we’re different:

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.

Benefits:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with 100% of premium covered, 90% for dependents
  • Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office
  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office
  • Relocation support for those moving to Cupertino
