Position Summary

Aligned with the Ahead Together strategy and vision, General Medicines is a £10bn business (32% of GSK sales) and most likely to grow in the next years. Emerging Markets business is growing 5-10% annually to reach £2.5bn, making it the second largest region after the US. In this context, Primary and Small Molecules (PSM) manufactures most of the General Medicines’ volumes and will support 60% revenues and 36% of the growth in 2024-2026.

The VP L2L Operations Head role is instrumental to the delivery of this growth with overall accountability for the execution of Company strategy and P&L delivery across 8 of the 16 manufacturing sites in the network, operating across North Africa, Middle East and Asia ( 1 in Algeria, 2 in Egypt, 3 in Pakistan, 1 in Saudi Arabia and 1 in Japan). The role is accountable for ensuring performance excellence across the GSK portfolio in the Area, as well as the strategic direction set up together with the LOCs.

Key Responsibilities in Detail

Drive and manage the business:

  • Together with the SVP of Primary & Small Molecule (PSM) Manufacturing and the strategy group, defines the L2L manufacturing operations strategy, ensuring highest level of delivery, commercial alignment and returns.

  • Together with the L2L Leadership Team, delivers the objectives of the business in partnership with Commercial, driving one P&L mindset and business impact.

  • Together with Site Directors, partners with Commercial to maximise gross margin through appropriate cost, profit, and revenue goals.

  • Drives operational performance and ensure continuous supply of medicines in the markets line with GSK KPIs and meeting customer needs.

  • Manages GSK resources effectively to deliver the longer-term strategy, portfolio evolution and performance ambition.

  • Provides leadership to Site Directors and manufacturing sites to ensure a continuous supply of medicines – ensures flawless operational delivery across sites, at the right cost and with the right quality.

  • Ensures the Site Directors lead with an enterprise mindset, building market agility and ensuring commercial alignment.

  • Effectively manages GSK Enterprise Risks, Compliance and relentlessly focused on Safety.

  • Accountable for ensuring GSK operates in line with all local and globally applicable laws, policies, SOPs, and legislation including EHS, Quality, financial reporting.

  • Ensures regulatory alignment.

People:

  • With the L2L Leadership Team, provides leadership and engages all employees in delivering the objectives to expectations.

  • Inspires, engages, and aligns employees to understand and deliver the strategy.

  • Leads, evaluates, and develops senior leaders and teams and has the ambition to foster Enterprise leaders.

  • Fosters a high-performing team environment, in compliance with all relevant internal and external regulations and laws.

  • Attracts, develops, and retains diverse talent at all levels to ensure quality succession plans for priority roles in the organisation.

  • Maintains good relationships and good employee relations environment.

Candidate Profile

Basic qualifications:

  • Experience leading a manufacturing network of multiple sites within pharma and/or biopharma.

  • Experience with large revenue, developed and emerging, markets.

  • Experience collaborating closely with commercial and integrating supply chain and commercial.

  • Experience in managing P&L, resource allocation and portfolio management, forecasting, identifying opportunities and risks to the business, understanding company results and financials. Experience in business case preparations, capital project execution and capital planning.

  • 10+ years of leading leaders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience identifying opportunities and risks to the business, understanding company results and financials.

  • Strategy deployment, senior sponsorship in project execution, understanding PMF standard tool.

  • Proven strong leadership, structure, and extended span of control.

  • Understanding of law as it relates to local policies and tax: competition law, corporate governance, local insight, local policies, ABAC, Data Privacy.

  • In addition to internal communication, externally with media, work councils, industry bodies.

  • Identifying, managing, and mitigating GSK enterprise risk and operational risk.

  • Understanding and engaging with regulatory bodies, creating strong relationships with internal and external contacts, attending key inspections.

  • Knowledgeable about labour laws, often context specific.

  • Engaging, empowering and decisive leadership style with well-developed relation building skills to build trust and credibility and establish networks across markets, Commercial and other functions at a regional and global level.

  • Enterprise thinking.

  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively across cultures.

  • Ability to drive innovation.

  • Experience in a commercial role would be an asset.
