Job Description:

SUMMARY: The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for the Close of Day and backs up various Accounts Receivable positions with any tasks needed and by performing the duties outlined below in accordance with the Coastal Cancer Center values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

  • Performs close of day timely, accurately and thoroughly by:
  • Auditing claims for billing accuracy and updating charges
  • Verify billing in IKM for accuracy. Contact appropriate staff to correct as needed.
  • Works Owner Box daily.
  • Identifies and holds claims with unspecified charges and files when corrected.
  • Completes void and bad debt reversal requests as needed.
  • Assists team and other staff members with questions and or problems regarding the processing of claims, error corrections and the close of day.
  • Trains as necessary for the clinical staff to properly enter charges to reduce errors so claims are paid properly.
  • Trains new staff as needed.
  • Attends meetings.
  • Able to multitask.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:  High school diploma

  • Experience:   Two (2) to three (3) years-experience preferably in a health care organization.  

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
  • Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.

SKILLS:

  • Skill in using computer programs and applications.
  • Skill in using calculator.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and exercise discretion.
