Job Description Summary

The Nuclear Business Sites Security Leader is responsible for the physical security of special nuclear materials, personnel, and company assets at the Wilmington nuclear site. This role establishes and maintains security and guard force procedures, conducts security audits of facilities, programs, and systems, and coordinates with local law enforcement. The leader updates security programs to support current and future NRC licensed activities, manages security operations budgets, and serves as the Primary Security Advisor within the site Emergency Organization. This is a fully on-site role based in Wilmington, NC.

Job Description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure compliance with all security requirements under the NRC Special Nuclear Materials license
  • Lead physical security for the Wilmington nuclear site, including personnel, facilities, and assets
  • Serve as the Primary Security Advisor (NRC‑required role) for the site Emergency Organization
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve site security programs and procedures to support current and future NRC‑licensed activities
  • Manage access control, badging, and security training for employees, visitors, contractors, customers, and regulators
  • Lead and oversee the contract guard force to ensure compliance, readiness, and safety
  • Conduct security audits, assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement mitigation strategies
  • Interface with state and federal regulators and support inspections and audits
  • Provide strategic security planning and leadership for the Wilmington site and support other nuclear sites as needed
  • Manage security operations budgets and oversee multiple security‑related vendor contracts (e.g., guard services, armored transport, alarms, shredding, badging, and safety equipment)
  • Maintain corporate security programs, including participation in the Workplace Violence Response Team
  • Partner with GE Aerospace and internal stakeholders on security matters
  • Support the Nuclear Business Security Director as the security function expands
  • Lead special projects that enhance site safety and security
  • Exercise independent judgment to resolve complex security issues and develop recommendations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field and 2+ years of experience in nuclear, industrial, or military defense security programs, or equivalent military experience
    — OR —
  • 10+ years of experience in nuclear and/or industrial security programs

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an NRC Q or L Security Clearance
  • Ability to respond to the Wilmington site within 90 minutes
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or other protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export‑controlled technology; proof of status will be required prior to employment

Desired Characteristics

  • Background in law enforcement or military security
  • FSO or DFSO experience
  • Familiarity with 10 CFR 73 requirements
  • Experience in nuclear security and/or at DOE or NRC‑regulated nuclear materials facilities
  • Knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $99,300.00 and $165,600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
