This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Crane Operations Production Support Team(COPS) and manage associated assets.
  • Provide mentoring, coordinate training and skills development, for crane operators and riggers.
  • Promote and inspire teamwork and team morale.
  • Promote and ensure crane ops safety.
  • Develop and monitor department metrics as requested.
  • Perform critical administrative activities including recruiting, performance evaluations, coaching, resource planning and budget management.
  • Support production schedules as required, to ensure internal delivery targets are met.
  • Collaborate with team members, support engineers, and area managers to address constraints. and scheduling conflicts.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance production support.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve rigging hardware inventory and inspection control.
  • Coordinate emergent lift planning and rigging requests.
  • Ensure all rigging, BTH items, COPS vehicles, and other equipment is maintained and calibrated if required.
  • Willing to travel to the customers, vendors, or other Blue Origin manufacturing sites.
  • Schedule vendor visits, conference rooms, lunches for classes, Mobile cranes for onsite crane ops, as needed.
  • Become Familiarized with Maximo for maintenance and asset tracking.
  • Attend Crane Safety Working group meetings regularly.    

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in handling aerospace launch vehicles, and associated subsystem components, in support of launch schedule.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in work schedule.
  • Experience in Mobile and Overhead Crane Operations
  • Experience in proper rigging techniques and lift planning.
  • Ability to teach level I Rigging and Level I Crane Operator class.
  • Proficiency in business/office computing software
  • Previous experience in managing department budgets.
  • Excellent demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with OSHA 1910.179, OSHA 1926, OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1427, 91-710, P30.1
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our Blue Origin culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Aerospace Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or related engineering field
  • 10+ years’ experience in assembly/ production.
  • NCCO or equivalent certifications on overhead cranes, crawlers, or truck/all-terrain cranes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, models and drawing requirements.
  • Ability to precisely follow critical lift plans and procedures prepared by Engineering.

Desired:

  • Broad/deep Crane Operations planning skill set.
  • Certified Lift director
  • Certified Critical Lift Operator
  • Advanced rigging aptitude
  • Aerospace background with experience handling high value aerospace components.
