Better and fairer care. Always.
St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of our Australia’s health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent’s kind of person. Someone who puts compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.
Reporting directly to our supportive and progressive Chief Financial Officer (CFO), St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is seeking to appoint a motivated Deputy CFO to drive Finance team development and performance whilst nurturing cross functional relationships, with a focus on improved financial accountabilities across the organisation.
Collaborating throughout St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, located on the home of the Wurundjeri people, the Deputy CFO will demonstrate the ability to look past existing ways of working and identify opportunities for increased efficiencies and systems utilisation.
Offering a deep professional network across healthcare more broadly, the Deputy CFO will lean on those relationships to identify and resolve common sector challenges, working consultatively to position St Vincents Finance team as a leader in its field.
Key to success in the role will be a collaborative inter-professional approach, underpinned by high level financial operations capabilities and technical expertise. These capabilities should be founded on a calm and clear leadership style, comfortable having frank, outcomes focused conversations across “One St Vincent’s”.
The Deputy CFO will be committed to elevating departmental capabilities, ultimately ensuring St Vincent’s delivers the highest calibre of patient-centred healthcare outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Primary day to day accountabilities for this business-critical appointment include:
Set the approach to strategic financial planning across the hospital, communicating this to key stakeholders and ensuring the current and future needs of SVHM are met
Develop and manage the annual operational and capital budget process in line with agreed parameters and timelines
Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to identify and evaluate financial improvement opportunities
Identify factors likely to impact future financial performance and work with stakeholders to implement risk mitigation strategies
Develop timely and accurate financial performance reporting across all programs and departments
Develop and deliver regular forecasting to both internal and external stakeholders
Lead the development of appropriate financial governance arrangements across the organisation, driving improvements as appropriate
Ownership of all finance policies, ensuring these are current and reflect the changing financial and regulatory environment
Development of long-term capital plans, ensuring all capital expenditure has a clearly defined funding source
This is an exciting time to join St Vincent’s – organisationally we are on the verge of great things with our clinical expertise frequently at the forefront of medical breakthroughs.
