Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Customer Solutions Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design and build of robotic automation systems and factory automation. You will be a key contributor throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept to implementation and production, and closely collaborate with external machine builders and system integrators. You should have a hands-on approach, a willingness to navigate ambiguity, and a drive to solve complex engineering challenges. Key activities include translating project requirements into detailed specifications, creating efficient automation solutions, procuring components, reviewing designs and collaborating with partners to build and deploy robotic solutions.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Develop new robotic automation applications, including cost and effort estimation
  • Design and implement robotic automation and innovative R&D workcells, from concept to component selection and build
  • Identify and integrate cutting-edge technology products into automation workcell
  • Optimize efficiency by weighing the benefits of in-house development and collaboration with external system integrators.
  • Incorporate knowledge of industrial control systems to establish a standard for hardware selection and PLC software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team of product managers, software developers, and researchers to provide cost-effective, high-quality solutions aligned with customer requirements 
  • Document and communicate your work for internal and external stakeholders.

Skills you will need to be successful

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Professional experience in designing and implementing robotic automation systems and assembly lines
  • Proactive approach to working in ambiguous situations, capable of making decisions and driving solutions
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, preferably Autodesk Inventor with PDM/PLM system and AutoCAD
  • Excellent knowledge of design principles, Design for Manufacturing/Assembly  (DFM/DFA) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T)
  • Ability to collaborate with customers, vendors, cross functional teams and coordinate on-site work

Skills that will differentiate your candidacy

  • Extensive experience in designing complex robotic assembly lines with an expert understanding of design principles, mechanical tolerances and structural analysis, preferably in the electronic manufacturing industry
  • Professional working experience with rapid hardware prototyping
  • Experience with vendor management and procurement
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, ability to work independently, coupled with a well-focused attention to details  
  • Ability to learn fast, adapt and multi-task in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and / or internationally

 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $186,000 - 197,625 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
