Position Summary

Global market access strategy is foundational for successful commercialization. As a leader within the Global Market Access Strategy team you will lead the development of value proposition to payers and access strategies for launch assets and life cycle management to support patient access to our medicines.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director, the selected candidate will be accountable for developing market access strategy for marketed and late stage pipeline immunology assets, particularly in neurosciences but not restricted to it. The activities will be expected to provide advanced input on payer strategy, health outcomes differentiators, demand expectations, evidence generation plan and general market access viability.  The role will be primarily responsible for the development and evolution of pricing strategy that provides value realization for our products. It is also expected to work collaboratively with regional/local teams in their planning and execution of launch and access strategies, provide insights and assumptions to inform Long Term Financial Planning, represent Global MAx on Global Program Team (GPT), Disease Strategy Teams and 3M meetings. They will also partner with other MAX functions (HEOR, In-Region), Regulatory, Clinical Development, Business Insights & Analytics, Product Supply, HTA and Health Policy leads as well as relevant market stakeholders across the world to shape the evidence generation and advocacy efforts to ensure successful market access execution.

The ideal candidate for this Director role has a deep understanding and application of global/large health care systems for market access, pricing and reimbursement success within the biopharmaceutical industry including launches. A motivated, inclusive, and decisive disposition is essential for success. It is critical that the successful candidate have a track record of making complex strategic decisions and can communicate strategy effectively to senior leaders across functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive commercial success by ensuring market access plan development and execution excellence for neurosciences assets (or indications) under their responsibility
  • Identify payer needs (unmet medical need, suitable comparators, and competitive space) and anticipate their reaction to BMS products in scope
  • Conduct of a gap analysis between payer expectations and target product profile in the respective indication 
  • Partner with HEOR team in development and execution of a plan to address identified evidence gaps through additional studies, publications, messaging, and scientific communication
  • Development of the product’s value proposition articulating bold and differentiated messages on clinical, humanistic and economic benefits, and ensure those propositions are supported by strong evidence coming from registrational trials, non-registrational trials, and real-world evidence in appropriate timelines for the worldwide brand / indication launch. Working with BMS HEOR and regulatory teams to seek optimal PRO claims in the product label as appropriate, and maximize the economic value of assets
  • Steer the development/update of the product value resources (payer value story, global value dossier, objection handler, commercial toolkit etc) and train affiliates 
  • Develop and execute the pricing strategy and its evolution as well as market access strategies to achieve commercial objectives at value-appropriate pricing across the stages of the product lifecycle
  • Review protocol design for health economic studies and integration of payer relevant endpoints in the clinical development plan
  • Lead Core Value Team and Value Strategy Teams for selected assets on the therapeutic area
  • Develop and represent integrated MAX assumptions for Long Term Financial Planning (LTFP) and Portfolio Prioritization
  • Represent WW value, access & pricing strategy on cross-functional platforms, for instance, Global Program Teams, Worldwide Brand Teams, Disease Strategy Teams
  • Monitoring competitive environment in partnership with the Business Insights team, and update cross functional teams on important access developments

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA and/or post graduate degree desired
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with an exceptional track record in Market Access, Pricing or HEOR in a Global role or in an individual market. Alternatively, significant experience with a highly reputable consultancy in the access space with US, and EU5 experience
  • Product launch / commercialization experience is mandatory, experience with neurology and psychiatric products is essential
  • Proven ability to translate scientific/clinical value into economic and payer value and solid understanding of clinical trial designs drug development and regulatory approval process
  • Proven ability to efficiently craft and accurately articulate access strategy to senior, cross functional, stakeholders with potentially limited understanding of the access environment in a particular disease area or region
  • At least a basic understanding of health economic models and cost effectiveness and deep understanding of pricing methodology and GoA formulation
  • Demonstrated ability to establish unmet needs and drive value perception
  • Understanding of the current and evolving global market access environment for Immunology products, with special emphasis on gastroenterology
  • Team management experience is a plus, and demonstrated capability of effectively leading teams through complex decisions, prioritization and change management
  • Strong financial acumen, and ability to navigate corporate annual reports and finance documents
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and confidence to constructively challenge cross functional partners
  • Knowledge of the product development and commercialization process
  • Solid understanding of the biopharmaceuticals industry in the immunology space; familiarity with KOLs and their clinical beliefs in the core disease areas a plus
  • Ability to travel to international congresses and BMS internal meetings
