The Opportunity

Abbott Established Pharma in Pakistan is looking for a Head of Engineering for its Plant at Landhi, Karachi.

Job Summary:

To assist Director Operations through effectively and efficiently managing all functions of Engineering including but not limited to, Capital Projects, Utilities, Pharma Equipment Maintenance, Building Repair & Maintenance etc. for EPO Pakistan. Ensure the establishment and accomplishment of all Engineering and Energy Goals and to provide over all leadership, direction, and coordination of all related activities

Principal Duties:

  • Monitor KPI’s and perform Root Cause Analysis where applicable.
  • Assist Director Operations in all Technical matters pertaining to Plant Engineering.
  • To organize and supervise functions of Engineering Department and provide leadership, direction, and coordination of all engineering activities.
  • Establish priorities and strategies. Monitor actual vs. planned estimation, taking corrective actions as necessary to meet planned objectives.
  • Provide Quality support departments to ensure -un-interrupted operation.
  • Prepare Annual Departmental Expense budget and ensure that no cost over-run takes place.
  • Plan and execute capital Projects (Production Equipment, Utilities Equipment, Buildings & infrastructure upgrades, Material Handling Equipment, land development etc.)
  • Ensure that required utilities are available to end users as per requirement.
  • Develop and implement Comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Plans for key Production, Utilities and   Material handling Equipment.
  • Develop and administer plans and programs to meet Project objectives and financial plans, in accordance with policies and goals, quality requirements and budgetary targets. Monitor and control expenses, manage work to reduce cost.
  • Ensuring that equipment is under conditions which meet GPO Policies / Procedure, Engineering standards & Specifications, Local Regulatory and cGMP requirements and using approved documentation.
  • Ensuring that project maintenance and execution are under controlled environment, meeting all Global Environmental health and safety & Housekeeping Standards.
  • Assure compliance with Abbott Code of Business Conduct, and laws. Maintain safe workplace.
  • Manage Project personnel to ensure employee development and effective succession planning.  
  • Maintain positive employee relations atmosphere.
  • Assist Director Operations in establishment and implementation of Engineering & Energy goals.
  • To Coordinate the plant communication with EPO area/division level.
  • Ensure operations are in compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits, licenses, approvals and requirements (as may be required).
  • Ensure EHS&E actions related to incidents (injuries, illnesses, environmental incidents), and audit findings (EHS&E audits, Loss Prevention, and external audits/inspections) are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure responsibility for EHS&E performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott's EHS&E program.
  • Ensure provision of the necessary training and resources to educate employees about compliance to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Ensure that manufacturing/ plant equipment are under conditions, which meet applicable Global Environmental health & Safety standards, Engineering standards & Specifications, GPO Policies / Procedure, Local Regulatory and CGMP requirements and Housekeeping Standards.
  • To assist Director Operations in utilities & infrastructure Planning and implementation.
  • To organize and supervise functions of Engineering Department and provide overall leadership,
  • Develop and administer plans and programs to meet engineering objectives and financial plans, in accordance with policies and goals, Supply Plan, quality requirements and budgetary targets.
  • Monitor and control expenses, manage products cost and work to reduce cost.
  • Suggest improvements and modifications upgrade existing operations.
  • Recommend and select new equipment after inviting quotations from various vendors and install, commission new equipment.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is under conditions, which meet GPO Policies / Procedure, Local Regulatory and CGMP requirements, using approved documentation.
  • Coordinate with Quality information feedback with QA e.g. QA Audits, Complaints, Market Returns and Trend Analysis Reports etc.
  • Coordinate with other departments for resolution of quality problems and disposition of nonconforming issues.
  • Represent Engineering department in different Committees (as directed by Operations Director) and provide necessary assistance to launch new products.
  • Ensure provision of the necessary training and resources (area, equipment, manpower etc.) to meet the quality. Provide strategic direction in engineering technology and equipment.
  • Any other job assigned by Director Operations.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Knowledge of all Engineering functions including Projects, Utilities, Pharma Equipment & their maintenance and EHS&E related standard, policies and procedures particularly in pharma industry
  • Knowledge of Budgeting, costing, BOQ’s preparation, contract administration.
  • Minimum 15- 20 Years’ experience in relevant field.
