Job Purpose:
The Lead Software Engineer delivers new technology capabilities for the Portfolio Management teams within Investments. This role is responsible for serving as a technical leader and collaborating with cross-functional teams to architect solutions that support our investment software systems and strategies. This role will evaluate existing architectures, platforms and technology and lay out a future state platform and guide the execution of building that system. The Lead Software Engineer mentor's other engineers on the team, influences technical strategy, and ensures the reliability, security, and performance of our systems. This role has critical relationship management responsibilities working with business clients, external parties, and other technology groups (Developers, Network Administrators, Senior Management, Executives, etc.).
What you might work on:
Serves as a technology leader and influences technology strategy.
Collaborates and partners with peer Investments lead engineers and Investment Architecture through the design and implementation of complex, scalable software solutions ensuring alignment with business goals and technical excellence.
Defines platform architecture, sub-system designs, and system integration strategy.
Accountable for providing the engineering guidance, technology architecture, and will guide the solution architecture for the Portfolio Management team.
Designs and develops high-performance, low latency applications for Portfolio Management.
Identifies, encourages, and mentors areas for growth and improvement within the team.
Prepares technical architecture artifacts, deployment diagrams, and other documentation on operationalization and maintenance of software solutions.
Advises business clients and Technology Management of service capabilities and recommends strategies to maximize the benefits of new technologies.
Provides third-level support for local and remote investment business clients.
Designs and implements initial platform code that will be leveraged by engineering teams.
Drives engineering best practices and defines/enforces software quality standards.
Ensures platforms are designed to meet security, performance, and reliability requirements.
Provides technical leadership to teams of engineers. Reviews code, defines code review standards, and assists all engineers in the organization to adhere to the SDLC best practices.
Works with product managers, product owners, stakeholders to establish high-level solution intent.
Proactively stays on top of industry latest trends and identifies strategic technology opportunities for the organization.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc.
10+ years of experience as a software engineer with 3 years of experience as a Lead/Principal Software Engineer.
Experience in the financial services industry (e.g., investment management, trading systems, or fintech).
Proficiency in a modern backend programming language such as C#, Python, or Java.
Strong understanding of backend application development, including API design, data management, and system integration.
Experience with Domain Driven Design.
Experience with frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or Blazor.
Understands object-oriented and service-oriented application development techniques and theories.
Experience with automated acceptance testing.
Experience writing simple, clean, tested and maintainable code.
Experience with Agile development methodologies and practices (Scrum, Kanban or XP).
Experience with SOLID coding principles.
Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external business stakeholders.
Experience with security best practices for SDLC (e.g. the Secure Software Development Framework)
Strong understanding of Dev/SecOps and Site Reliability Engineering philosophies
Preferred Competencies:
Cloud Certified Solutions Architect Associate Certification or equivalent.
Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
Experience developing using CQRS and Event Sourcing Architectures.
Passion for and stays current with modern technologies.
Solve problems systematically and transparently.
Shares ideas, solicits/integrates feedback, designs and solves collaboratively.
