About the team:

We are the AML & Sanctions team in the Risk and Compliance Organization. Our team is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to work on key parts of compliance like the anti-money laundering, transaction monitoring, risk rating, sanctions, regulatory reporting, and various other risk and compliance systems. You’ll be working with a world class team of engineers, designers, product managers, and business unit to create great products that make a difference on one of the world’s most visited and loved websites.

About the Role:

We are looking for a strong backend Engineer to work in the AML & Sanctions team, who is responsible for handling Seller/Buyer experience in the eBay marketplace. As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will work with extremely hardworking peers in a fun environment. You will work in an agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering perfection.

Responsibilities:

• Define, design, and implement highly scalable, resilient and performant distributed systems
• Work throughout all phases of the software development life cycle independently as well as work jointly with other team members
• Collaborate with architects, product management, engineering, business unit and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions adherence to development goals and principles
• Lead product design, produce clear, well-documented design docs, and participate in design and code reviews
• Evangelize and communicate your design, methods, and results to a community of developers, analysts, and product managers
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, mentorship to develop and improve performance of individual team members and success of overall team
• Strictly follow Definition of Done (DoD) process for better quality by maintaining over 80% unit test coverage and other release criteria standards
• Responsible for leading engineering support, release, and on-call responsibilities for an always-on 24x7 site

Requirements:

• 12+ years of work experience in software design and application development or MS in Computer Science plus 10 years of experience
• Extensive hands-on experience and expertise in object-oriented design methodology and application development using Java/J2EE, Node JS, Graph QL, Design Patterns, Spring MVC, SQL, NOSQL DB, Web services
• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms
• Hands-on experience leveraging big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) for large-scale data ingestion, processing, and storage.
• 10+ years of experience in developing high performance, highly scalable, database driven consumer web applications
• Good understanding of web services and SOA related standards like REST/OAuth/JSON
• Proficient in Test Driven Development, clean code, software craftsmanship
• Must be proactive, self-directed, detailed and organized
• Proven ability to understand the business and make appropriate trade-offs and contribute to technology direction that leads to measurable business improvements
• Strong analytical, problem solving skills, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced, iterative development environment
• Lead by example and share knowledge with the team
