Job Description Summary:

Our Finance department has an opening for a Junior Pricing Analyst. This position plays a critical role on Fenwick’s pricing team by performing financial analysis, creating budgets for legal engagements, monitoring budget performance, maintaining matter databases, reporting metrics and other responsibilities. The junior analyst supports the negotiation, implementation, and renewal of pricing arrangements with clients as well as setting and maintaining timekeeper billing rates.

This position offers a hybrid schedule and requires at least 1 day onsite (after the training period) per week in our San Francisco office with the possibility of additional required in-office days depending on business needs. The work schedule for this position (non-exempt) will be 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. This role also requires the ability to travel to our Silicon Valley, CA office (at least once per month).

Job Description:

  • Perform financial analysis in support of the creation of multi-scenario budgets; to vet results of algorithmic computations; and, to determine the accuracy of models by application of historical data to actuals.
  • Oversee budget to actual reporting and proactively drive any necessary communications with client and/or engagement team as well as make any necessary adjustments to budget.
  • Liaise with attorneys, clients and pricing team on pricing arrangements and budget creation.
  • Run reports needed for budgeting, monitoring and performance metrics.
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date various databases.
  • Manage and improve the quality of the task coding of time entries by legal professionals.
  • Create client rate submissions and ensure quality control throughout the rate setting process.
  • Support legal operations functions including assisting with annual rate setting process, documenting client rate agreements, and monitoring alternative fee agreements.
  • Provide pricing analysis and billing support for Fenwick’s ancillary products and services.
  • Perform research using sources such as legal documents and the internet.
  • Compile and prepare financial analysis and reports from various sources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exposure to finance and accounting best practices including reconciling totals.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and document multiple scenarios of various types for legal engagements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work seamlessly with professionals at all levels.  
  • Advanced communication and writing.
  • Advanced Excel skills required; experience working with large data sets.
  • Must be comfortable with situations which require a high volume of time sensitive data entry.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated and able to work independently.

Reporting to the Sr. Pricing Manager, the ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in a financial or data analysis role. Bachelor's degree (required) or higher; business-focused quantitative degree (especially accounting/finance/economics/statistics) preferred.

The anticipated range for this position is:

$57,000 - $77,250

Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.  Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
