Position Summary


Responsible for oversight of the functions comprising the nuclear fuel lifecycle. This includes: Planning, managing, coordinating, and directing the procurement of nuclear fuel commodities including uranium concentrates, conversion services, enrichment services, and fuel fabrication to ensure all needed materials are available for reactor reloads. Director-level management of all nuclear fuel cycle analysis, reload safety analyses, and nuclear fuel accounting, capital and fuel expense budgets, and nuclear fuel related processes. Director-level management of the reactor engineering function including site-based nuclear engineering resources. Director level management of dry fuel storage including cask procurement, loading requirements, and loading campaigns. Supports development of nuclear fuel related data to support regulatory filings and responses to regulatory interrogatories. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the status of the nuclear fuel industry as it potentially impacts the procurement of nuclear fuel commodities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing, planning, coordinating, and directing the procurement of nuclear fuel commodities in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategies and actions to respond to emergent nuclear fuel industry related issues. Stays abreast of ever-changing nuclear fuel supply markets and industry events impacting nuclear fuel supply.
  • Supports Xcel Energy Regulatory in developing nuclear fuel related data for regulatory filings, responses to regulatory interrogatories, and routine required reporting.
  • Acts as Program Owner for 10 CFR Part 810 in support of nuclear and information technology.
  • Supports the ongoing operations of the sites and remains jointly accountable with site personnel for meeting site performance objectives.
  • Represents Xcel Energy in external meetings with State Regulators, Industry Working Groups, Xcel Energy customers, and others as requested.
  • Support Xcel Energy Federal Lobbyists on nuclear fuel related issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS or BA in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Business, or related field with a minimum of 10 years nuclear industry experience.
  • Preferred: Nuclear engineering management/oversight experience.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership and team building skills.
  • Experience negotiating contracts with external parties.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Must have knowledge of nuclear fuel generation systems and fuel requirements, reload safety analyses, reactor engineering, nuclear fuel purchasing methodologies, risk management tools and strategies, government regulations regarding nuclear fuel.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $159,900.00 to $259,300.00 per year
