Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and technically sound Sr. Manager, Property Tax with a track record of innovation and advising leadership on strategic property tax decisions. This Sr. Manager, Property Tax will conduct and manage business personal property and real estate tax compliance, appeals, budgeting, execution and strategy for all company business units.

Responsibilities:

Prepare, conduct and manage all aspects of multi state/national business personal property tax compliance on properties of assigned portfolio utilizing PTMS tax software. Perform and manage data gathering and manipulation of fixed assets, inventory and supplies from SAP/Oracle, PeopleSoft and JDE ERP systems. Reconcile balance sheets and income statements to the general ledger. Reconcile property tax accrual and expense accounts. Upload all data necessary for compliance into PTMS. Review of valuation and assessments to recommend appeal of business personal property. Conduct all informal and formal appeals. Review tax returns/bills or other documents to ensure tax compliance of assigned portfolio. Develop and analyze business personal property tax reports for company assets utilizing appropriate data analytic tools.

Partner with internal stakeholders and third-party consulting firms to develop and maintain a strategic real property tax minimization program. Work directly with advisors to manage real estate tax compliance and savings opportunities. Capture all real estate data metrics from advisors all US assets. Manage a real estate tax database for company assets and provide real estate tax information to internal and external stakeholders. Monitor and respond timely to all real estate tax notices and requests. Assist with real property tax budget & forecasting for Company assets.

Manage property tax audits and site visits of assigned portfolio.

Respond to questions about business transactions from business units or departments. Coach and provide instruction to lower-level professional staff. Participate in the development and implementation of tax strategy.

Develop annual budget for real and personal property taxes of assigned portfolio. Review of reconciliations/journal entries for the accurate recording of tax liabilities including true-up to budget for final tax bills received. Provide information and assistance to financial reporting team and outside auditors.

Responsible for complex valuation projects to drive tax savings opportunities, including management of credits and incentives.

Monitor and advise on regulatory and legislative changes to real property and business personal property taxes effecting the company’s assets. 

Work independently, as well as within a cross-functional project team environment.

Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to extract insights, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.

Support tax technology needs as they relate to compliance, reporting, analytics and controls. Support tax technology process and requirements throughout the development life cycle (i.e., requirements documentation, test plans, validation, production support, etc.). Support and liaise with Indirect Tax Technology leader on property tax technology improvement projects.

  • Strong Property Tax and accounting knowledge and a desire to continue to develop that knowledge.

  • Mentor and develop less experienced tax staff, and partner with peers and leadership to identify ways to improve existing processes that enhance the team’s experience, knowledge, and efficiencies.

  • Assist in the development, design, implementation and adoption of PTMS tax software upgrades, change requests and enhancements as they pertain to tax functionality.
  • Implement business process changes as required to improve efficient and effective business personal property tax compliance.
  • Support M&A transactions, credits and incentives, and drive integration activities and special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field.
  • 8 to 12 years' experience in real and personal property tax, including filing business personal property tax renditions.
  • Technical expert for real and personal property tax.
  • Proven ability to analyze and review large data sets in Excel and other mediums and draw conclusions / determine next steps to solve, resolve issues.
  • Strong organization, time management, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail; able to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities / expectations in accordance with deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership and all functional and operational teams, including ability to convey complex property tax concepts to an audience not experienced in tax matters.
  • Positive, driven and energetic; enjoys “rolling up your sleeves” to get the job done.
  • Proficient in computer skills and applications including Word, Excel, property tax compliance software such as PTMS, and ERP systems such as SAP, JDE, PeopleSoft.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PTMS tax software

Healthcare experience

Master’s Degree: Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance

Certified Public Accountant

CMI or professional designation

Experience and proficiency in automation tools and technologies, including with data analytics tools and techniques, such as data extraction, transformation, and visualization (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau)

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $108,700 - $181,100
