The opportunity

Since IFRS 17 had been go-live successfully in 2023 for Manulife, 2024 will provide an opportunity to seek for improvement in IFRS 17 finance operation and reporting efficiency to meet the increasing demand of high quality of data access, cross financial system integration and process control for Manulife finance community. This presents unique working opportunities for data and financial training to students based on Manulife business and financial data. In addition, students can make good use of these opportunities to get involved in the real business world for life insurance industry. This internship position will also have opportunities to work with the various departments and local finance of businesses, which enrich the learning experience and serve as a useful launch-pad for student. On the Job As Part Of Regional Controller Team, You Will

  • Assist to enhance data insight and financial analysis through newly developed IFRS 17 accounting and financial systems and financial reporting applications.
  • Assist to enhance the standard IFRS 17 financial reports in an efficient, effective and user-friendly manners for Asia finance stakeholders in relation to the target delivery of financial processes, reconciliation and control.
  • Assist to perform IFRS 17 financial system integration for finance process related to unit test, functional test, system integration test and user acceptance test results in the style of agile deployment timeline relevant to Asia Finance.
  • Assist to perform financial process re-engineering based on existing financial technology platform and common financial software application for IFRS 17 finance quality close or fast close.
  • Assist to document in summarized data, process and system requirements / findings for forward looking improvement by word / simple numeric excel spreadsheet illustration / power point format from operational finance management perspective.

What we are looking for

  • Year 2 or Year 3 students are suggested
  • Major in BBA in specialized in accounting or decision sciences and managerial economics / Statistics / Risk Management Science / Quantitative Finance
  • Intermediate level on MS excel formula, pivot table and VBA programming associated with power-pivot and power-query, which will have competitive advantage;
  • Excellent research and data mining skill;
  • Excellent financial modelling skill;
  • Strong communication skill;
  • Strong team player;
  • Well organized and pay attention to details;
  • Ability to handling high volume of data and complicated data structure;
  • Ability to summarize complex dataset or cross system applications for presentation by MS excel / PowerPoint.
