POSITION SUMMARY

This position will act as a liaison for all research studies that involve clinical laboratory testing, specimen collection, and/or data analytics for the Banner Institute Biomarker Program. The role, in coordination with research leadership, will determine project feasibility, verify compliance with grant/contract and regulatory requirements, develop and manage project budgets, and provide input on study design. This position will also assist in the development and successful execution of clinical research studies with principal investigators (PI) or project leads, including but not limited to protocol design, study execution, preparation of required documentation, development of study’s final report and resulting study presentations and/or publications.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Plans and facilitates meetings with the research leadership and various stakeholders to review research requests from internal and external clients. In coordination with the study lead or PI, ensures that the timeline of the project is being met. Identifies and implements process changes to improve the research program. Creates and maintains policies and procedures for the department.

2. Communicates and works effectively with all stakeholders within Banner and Banner Research. Establishes strong working relationships Banner Institute Biomarker Program, as well as other academic organizations, diagnostic companies, and other important stakeholders. Acts as the principal communication contact between study personnel, collaborators, and consultants. Develops and maintains communication platforms.

3. Monitors costs, productivity, and profitability using available financial tools. Prepares quarterly forecasts and makes recommendations to the director for strategic planning.  Manages accounts payable including check requests, invoices, and internal transfers for research-related studies. Verifies all expenditures and maintains a balanced study budget. Prepares the annual operational/capital budget.

4. Has significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures associated with clinical trials and research studies. Possesses strong working knowledge regarding applicable clinical research regulatory requirements. Manages all study-generated documentation as specified by study sponsor and compliance requirements. Ensures compliance with the Institutional Review Board and HIPAA regulations.

5. Performs moderately complex to highly complex laboratory testing as specified in the study protocol. As project needs dictate, conducts analysis and interpretation of data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in life/health sciences or related field. Four (4) years of clinical research experience including experience in clinical operations. Demonstrated ability in preparing study budgets and working with sponsors. Strong organization and documentation skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Superior problem-solving capability.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Working knowledge regarding applicable clinical research regulatory requirements. Comfortable and capable of learning new methodologies and operating systems in a timely manner, including multiple Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures associated with clinical trials and basic research studies. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent analytical/strategic skills. Ability to prioritize and effectively perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Good working knowledge of finance, including budgeting and cost control.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D in a related field is highly preferred. Strong understanding of fluid biomarkers.

Additional related education and/or research experience.
