SUMMARY

The Packaging Designer is the owner of the packaging design review and approval process. Designs and modifies product packaging, including labels, logos, graphics, and bar coding for JOANN private label brands and packaging. Coordinates packaging production and collaborates with cross-functional partners and third-party vendors. This position will be the expert on JOANN private brand design standards and is accountable for communicating with vendors and JOANN associates to drive accurate, complete packaging and ensure that it complies with the brand's design. Creates style guides, graphics, packaging design layout and die lines for special packaging projects. The Packaging Designers support all product categories at JOANN using our JOANN private brands or labels.

JOB DUTIES

• Coordinate the day-to-day management of all assigned packaging projects from concept through to completion. Using graphic design expertise, ensure layout, color and design standards are met and verify that all packaging designed in-house and by external resources complies with the JOANN brand standard for design, accuracy and quality. Ensure that the approval process is executed efficiently and within timelines. Advise vendor about design changes or corrections to vendor packaging when not complying with the JOANN brand standard. Work internally with Product Development and Sourcing, Merchandising and Quality teams.

• Design, Create and publish packaging style guides to set standards for JOANN private brands. Utilize creative skills, including design and production expertise in creating the design and layout for new packaging initiatives. Create logos, illustrations and other graphic design projects as assigned.

• Create artwork for special packaging. Design and draw die lines for special packaging projects. Work with print resources and vendors in finding creative solutions for difficult packaging challenges. Create raster art using adobe photoshop to edit photography and/or create original art for packaging. Create vector art using adobe illustrator to create original art for packaging. Create packaging mock ups as needed for internal presentations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or Visual Communication

Experience Minimum: 0-2 years of graphic design and production skills.

Experience Preferred: Experience with consumer goods and/or retail. Die line design experience. Project management experience. Graphic Design firm and/or Agency experience a plus.
