Job Description

What is the Opportunity?

RBC’s Transformation & Enterprise Operations (TEO) group is at the center of one of the most consequential transformation agendas in Canadian banking - reimagining how a top-10 global bank operates through AI, intelligent automation, and enterprise-scale change. This is not a traditional PMO role. As Director, Head of Portfolio & Program Management, you will architect the governance and delivery infrastructure that makes the transformation real. You’ll lead a high-performing team, advise senior executives, and build the operating model that accelerates RBC’s most strategic initiatives.
This role reports to the Senior Director, Enterprise Operations Transformation Office.

What will you do?

  • Design and operationalize a fit-for-purpose portfolio and program management methodology for TEO’s transformation agenda, including lifecycle governance, cost & benefits tracking, and risk frameworks
  • Lead and develop delivery teams across all phases of program execution, holding teams accountable to timelines, budgets, and quality standards
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders by translating complex program dynamics into clear executive narratives and decision-ready insights
  • Build a team culture defined by delivery excellence, growth mindset, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to align expectations, surface risks early, and drive resolution at pace
  • Establish integrated portfolio planning in collaboration with project delivery leads, and own executive-level governance reporting
  • Evaluate major technology investments, providing economic analysis, sequencing recommendations, and options to de-risk execution
  • Oversee workforce strategy for the team, including development, performance, and external contractor management
  • Leading and guiding teams within the assigned portfolio through all phases of program and project management.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10+ years leading Portfolio & Program Management in large, complex matrixed organizations
  •  Proven track record of executive-level stakeholder engagement and influencing without authority
  • Deep experience in program governance, cost/benefit tracking, and risk management at scale
  • Strong financial and business acumen, you speak the language of ROI and trade-offs, not just delivery milestones
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to simplify complexity and drive clarity in ambiguous environments
  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering; PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification

Nice to Have

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree
  •  Exposure to AI, automation, or digital transformation programs in financial services
  • Experience with large-scale outsourcing or vendor management environments

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable
  • You’ll be building something, not inheriting a fully formed function. The methodology, culture, and operating model are yours to shape
  • Direct visibility with senior leadership across one of Canada’s most ambitious transformation programs
  •  A platform to grow: RBC’s scale means your work has real institutional impact
