Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Sr. Enterprise AI Strategy Advisor (Sr. Project Engineer – Computer Engineering – Data Science/Big Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence) will execute Space Systems Architect Division mission by leveraging the Aerospace program office and engineering technology group backplane to collaboratively develop and assist in execution of SSC’s Enterprise AI Strategy and Implementation plans aligned to both the DoD and AI Strategy documents.  This position requires not only a keen understanding of AI and AI-enabling technology requirements but also familiarity with the Acquisition Process and SSC programs and mission objectives to ensure the right technology is implemented the right way at the right time.  As a Sr. Project Leader at Aerospace, the Sr. Enterprise AI Strategy consultant will build cross-functional teams and ensure quality product output to support SSC’s AI Strategy and Implementation plan development and execution.

Work Model

This is a fulltime position based in El Segundo or Colorado Springs, offering a a hybrid work model that combines 3 or more regular onsite workdays, occasional travel and remote flexibility as the business needs allow. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Partnering with SSC’s Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) in developing SSC AI Strategy and Implementation plans
  • Advising on and implementing SSC AI Implementation plans aligned to higher headquarters AI strategies
  • Leading Aerospace-developed AI pilots that support SSC’s AI Acquisition strategy
  • Advising on how to leverage existing acquisition processes and contract mechanisms to support SSC’s AI strategy
  • Building and leading cross-functional Aerospace teams to develop products associated with SSC’s strategic AI needs
  • Working with FFRDC partners on coordinating AI R&D activities to ensure alignment in execution of SSC’s AI Strategy and Implementation plans

What You Need to be Successful – (Sr. Project Engineer – Computer Engineering – Data Science/Big Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline [Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.]
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering or scientific discipline
  • Minimum 1 year experience with DoD Acquisitions processes and mechanisms
  • Minimum 2 years work experience with Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Data Science
  • Proven program management experience and collaborating with internal/external customers
  • Familiarity with conducting research and development in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Data Science
  • Willing to travel occasionally to work location or domestic customer site approx. 10-20% of the time
  • This position requires a Top Secret clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • Masters or PhD degree in Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics or Machine Learning
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering experience
  • DoD Systems Engineering experience
  • TS/SCI or SAP clearances
