Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for a Systems Architect to join our team in Toronto.

As the Technical Directorate within the URS Business Line, you will be responsible for the definition of our technical product strategy, the architectural choices and for technology insertion into our product lines. 

Key responsibilities for our SelTrac IS product line:

• To provide technical expertise relating to Hitachi Rail SelTrac IS product and system solutions
• To define, control and maintain the Product Roadmap, features and perimeter for SelTrac IS
• To conceive the System Architecture for new advanced Train Control Solutions
• To validate and approve the architecture and updates for the SelTrac IS product and bids via the DVa process
• To chair the Change Control Boards for SelTrac IS product
• To review and validate bids, products and projects as requested by the Design Authority
• To take on the role of authorized delegate of the Design Authority for URS products and solutions

Key responsibilities for our Seltrac IS Solutions:

• Defining the 5-year technical strategy for our Communication Based Train Control System and documenting it in the Product Plans and the Technical and Innovation Strategic Plan
• Promote the use of product solutions minimizing variability and maximizing re-use
• Reviewing bids, product development and projects for technical coherence and adherence to product policy
• Conceiving solutions to improve the cost and overall competitiveness of our CBTC solutions

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or related field
• Minimum of 10 years relevant work (technical/functional) experience
• More than 10 years of experience in design and system architecture for real-time safety critical embedded systems
• Experience in system design, hardware, software, data communications
• In-depth product knowledge of the SelTrac IS product family and product solutions

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• A seasoned technical resource with deep product knowledge of our SelTrac IS products and solutions
• Knowledge of other URS BL product lines is an asset
• Experience with safety critical systems and safety-design principles
• Knowledge of standards including Cenelec and Arema
• Ability and experience with solution Tradeoff Analysis
• Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and succinctly with senior management about complex technical matters
• Ability to make public presentation and demonstration to customers
• Excellent writing skills, experience writing papers, and technical documentation
• Good organizational abilities
