Joining Suncor means you will work for one of the best companies in Canada, providing tremendous future potential where talented people thrive and lead. This is a dynamic role with in our Central Maintenance Department, working in the shop and operating plants.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Execute all planned and break in welding repairs, pressure piping and equipment, structural, build-up for line-boring and fabrication, as required
  • Responsible for minor welding and/or structural repairs on P&H 4100 and Hitachi EX8000 Shovels, Komatsu Haul trucks, Caterpillar auxiliary equipment as well as various other light vehicle and support equipment
  • Provide preventative maintenance support in the field and in the shop as needed
  • Assist with essential rigging and operate rigging for moving equipment with mobile equipment and lifting devices
  • Participate in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions to contribute to developing solutions
  • Operate company-provided equipment and vehicles in a safe manner
  • Read work orders, technical manuals, blueprints and diagrams related to the work assignment; write and review work scope and hazard/risk assessment
  • Clean and prepare base metals using bevellers, grinders, air nibblers, and cleaning chemicals
  • Evaluate maintenance procedures, and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five years of post-apprenticeship experience
  • B pressure experience with carbon and stainless welding and pipe fabrication
  • The ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances from drawings, and complete field verification for piping systems
  • Strong knowledge of piping and structural fabrication
  • Knowledge of SMAW, OAC, MIG, FCAW and TIG and heat treatment processes
  • Able to work in confined spaces and heights as needed
  • Proven problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills and validated ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
  • A Valid Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Welder Certificate and B pressure certified
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • A Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification
  • Working knowledge of SAP, and various Microsoft programs would be considered and asset

  • Located at our Fort Hills Mine site
  • This is a Fly In Fly Out Position
  • You will work 7 days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on and 7 days off - 12 hour shifts
