Leidos is looking for Data Engineer to analyze data attributes to be used by the customer for the design of the logical data model.  This individual will work with software developers, DBAs, and the security engineering for the collection, storage, protection, and analysis of the data at scale.  The objective is to collect diverse data elements into a cohesive, and expandable model to meet the different mission needs of the community.  The data engineer will define strategies and capabilities to ensure data quality that can convert raw data elements into standard enumerations.  The individual must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.

The data engineer will be required to carry a duty phone on a rotational basis, and may need to come in to address issues that arise with the system.

Primary Responsibilities

The data engineer will support our software developers, database administrators, and business analysts to ensure an optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout the system enhancement lifecycle.  Some of the tasks the data engineer will be expected to perform when working with data include the following:

  • Support the acquisition of datasets that align with business needs
  • Develop algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information
  • Build, test, and maintain the database pipeline architectures
  • Create data validation methods and data analysis tools
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies
  • Building logical data models used for defining the database schema
  • Analyze complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources

Qualifications

  • Must have an active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s and 8+ years of experience or a Master’s with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.  Experience may be used in lieu of degree.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets
  • Experiencing performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • History of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, and Redshift
  • Experience with object-oriented / object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, etc.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
