Position Summary


Provide strategic and logistical leadership while providing significant knowledge across all of Xcel Energy’s offerings. Provide technical expertise in customer energy programs to assist Xcel Energy customers to use energy more efficiently. Provide technical guidance and review directly to customers, sales staff, and marketing staff; examine potential applications and recommend solutions. This position is responsible for leading edge expertise in specific technical areas and applying that expertise to maximize customer adoption of Xcel Energy energy products. This position is responsible for developing the analyses of the largest and most complicated projects that will receive the greatest scrutiny from regulators. Management responsibility includes direction, hiring, and performance management of staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, training and education to internal staff, Xcel Energy Marketing and Sales, customers and trade allies on technology issues. Responsibilities include consulting with customers on special program offerings, drive concepts with product development and program managers to improve and expand product and services offerings for energy programs.

  • Direct, manage, hire, train and guide staff by prioritizing and assigning work, assembling teams utilizing internal as well as external resources. Monitor and document results in order to ensure successful completion of projects including Key Performance Indicators of cost, timeliness, etc. Assist in individual and team goal setting and monitoring as they relate to department goals and measures. Schedule and provide input into performance appraisal process for employees.

  • Demonstrates technical expertise by keeping current and informed about technical developments and industry practices. Represents the company nationally and locally through participation in industry and professional forums in order to stay abreast of emerging industry changes, issues and technologies. Serve as a versatile resource to customers and sales on specific project opportunities and options. Utilize these relationships to define undiscovered opportunities for customers.

  • Reviewing and taking responsibility for the validity of the largest and most complicated projects. This requires knowledge of the regulatory as well as internal rules and guidelines for the technical-financial models. Document and run technical-financial models ensuring they meet state and corporate guidelines. Ensure that projects will withstand regulatory scrutiny to validate rebate expenditures and maximize Company’s investments. Provide final review for all technical-financial filings and lead peer reviewed projects.

  • Develop and oversee all departmental technology protocols for monitoring large-scale projects. Document methodologies and philosophies used in the determination of specific program features and offerings. Serve as liaison with regulators towards helping set and direct energy policy.

  • Offer expertise in utilizing technical-financial models so as to maximize energy program results that are transparent and defendable. Work with Product Development Manager and Product Managers and directors to set strategy for areas of improvement and program enhancements.

  • Provide leadership in developing methodologies for models in all areas.

Minimum Requirements


- BSME, BSEE or related engineering degree from an ABET accredited curriculum required.

- Licensed Professional Engineer certification preferred.

- 10 years experience with energy products preferred in one or more of the following: energy engineering consulting, HVAC, lighting, compressed air, energy efficient construction, motors, energy management controls, industrial processing, distributed energy resources and advanced grid technologies.

- 5 years minimum of utility energy program experience.

- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

- Experience with customer interaction preferred.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $105,600.00 to $130,000.00 per year
