Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

The Manufacturing Strategy and Integration team of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Senior Principal Manufacturing Operations Systems Engineer.

Manufacturing Systems Engineers (MSE) engage with low manufacturing readiness level (MRL) programs in Business Divisions and Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) to accelerate affordable maturation of new sensor technologies from demonstration to LRIP. MSEs drive commonality of hardware, producibility vs innovation trades and risk management through tools such as Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA) and Manufacturing Plans (MP).

MSEs must understand all aspects of a sensor’s fabrication, assembly and test (internally and/or externally) in context of other programs to identify product line alignment (re-use) and mitigate resource limitations. MSEs also influence Operations investments such as internal research and development (IRAD), Manufacturing Technology Activity (MTA), and capital in support of developing discriminating technologies including additive manufacturing, advanced packaging, automation/robotics, electro/optics, data analytics, and digital fabric.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Interface with Business Divisions and ECD to stay current with new concept and proposal programs
•Serve as operations technical interface for ECD and Business Division integrated program teams (IPT) for low MRL programs
•Develop MRAs and MPs per AS6500
•Support IPTs in make/buy/dual sourcing decisions
•Participate in producibility reviews for new product designs
•Recommend design improvements to produce lower cost/higher performing products
•Understand and translate state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers by interfacing with manufacturing subject matter experts
•Develop discriminating IRAD and capital investment plans with the Manufacturing Strategy and Integration team

Attributes:
•Must be able to understand complex technical issues and frame them in context for program management and functional Vice Presidents alike
•Excellent organizational and communication skills

•Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at customer and executive levels
•Self-motivated and passionate about next generation sensor technology

•Able to apply extensive technical manufacturing expertise in the advancement of next generation RF sensors without appreciable direction
•Able to find technical adjacencies across different sensor product applications. These adjacencies will be paired with IRAD, capital, and MTA planning to ensure common processes are used to optimize NGMS resources.

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR THIS JOB, HYBRID TELECOMMUTING is influenced by program assignment and typically requires that you are in the office around 50% of the time. Some program assignments have more flexibility.

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal:
•Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science or other relevant STEM area plus 8 years of relevant experience (or 6 years with a Master's or 4 years with a PhD)

•Manufacturing Engineering experience

•Experience leading or managing projects and/or people

•Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance. This requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Broad knowledge of processes and materials used to make RF sensors including semiconductor technology, microelectronic assembly, surface mount technology and materials for RF performance
•5 or more years of manufacturing process engineering related experience
•2 or more years of program experience (operations program manager, program management)
•Familiarity with process development and control methodologies such as Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts
•Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with automated equipment
•Understanding of factory costing methodology and process yield metrics
•Basic understanding of concepts related to typical manufacturing systems such as: MRP, kitting, batch sizing, configuration control and work flow routings
•Familiarity with MIL-STD, JEDEC and Space class hardware requirements
