As part of a diverse and hardworking team of technicians, you will assist with the setup of the production work areas, including layouts,

tooling and equipment setup for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the transition from development to production. You will manufacture, assemble, and test structural flight hardware assemblies according to written procedures and engineering models, drawings, and specifications. You will be responsible for operating various material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, flight vehicle and subassembly transportation equipment, truck-trailer combinations, and other ground support equipment as required. Set up and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools including, but not limited to, torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser trackers, height gauges, and optical measuring instruments. You will perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following, routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of production related equipment. Repair and preventative maintenance of a variety of machinery, tools, equipment used in the facility. A strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously for long periods of time. This position requires a high sense of urgency with a focus on safety.

Responsibilities 

  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand and power tools.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that equipment continue to run smoothly.

  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

  • Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, machinery, and equipment.

  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.

  • Record maintenance and repair work performed and the parts required

  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates in all communication means

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Apprenticeship graduate or technical degree helpful.

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.

  • CNC controls and electrical controls experience preferred.

  • Working familiarity with shop planning/tooling

  • Fabrication experience a plus

  • Electrical and fluids schematics understanding

  • A Strong desire to understand, and continuously improve production processes

  • Understanding of equipment maintenance and diagnostic principles and failure root cause and corrective action (RCCA)

  • 5S and Lean Experience beneficial.

  • Rigging and Crane operator certification

  • Proven success as a “hands-on” technical leader

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in a related field

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess basic computer proficiency and functional knowledge with applications and activities.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Basic math and reading comprehension.

  • Computer Skills

Desired:

  • Siemens 840D controller experience, G- and M-code familiarity

  • Operate or support large specialized equipment such as Kuka Robots, Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) and Tape laying (ATL) machines.

  • Operate or support crane lifts, scissor and boom lifts, forklifts, and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV)

  • Ovens, furnaces, & autoclaves
